I do the same--pre-order and forget it.

That said, I usually don't jump on a pre-order right away. I'll usually wait til I get a $25 coupon from doing a pre-order or from receiving a figure. And with this one, there's plenty of time and I have 3 or 4 figures due to arrive well before 2022. And if this figure is going to pre-sell out, I don't think it will be until sometime in 2022!

What I meant by forgetting is that as time passes on during a very lengthy PO customers tend to forget about the initial desire they had to own that PO item because they are consistently being bombarded with tons of new reveals that lights a new fire under their ***.

Impulse buying is a real thing and with that comes redistribution of funds.

If it's an awesome figure I'll pre-order day one. You want to lock it down and send a message to the retailer you favor to order more and to HT as well, but honestly I can't remember how many figures I've done that with lately -- Krennic, Snowspeeder Luke, hard to remember beyond that to be honest.

I don't think it was cancellations at AE. I think they put in another order.
Same thing happened with Armored Thanos last year.
They sold out of their first batch, while I was wringing my hands over whether to get it or not.
They secured another dozen, or however many, and I finally ordered when they were down to just a couple left.
It remained "out of stock" for a couple more weeks and then all of a sudden they had another batch for ordering, which I'm sure seemed like a good idea given how quickly the first two allocations sold out.
Units from this third order are still available and in-stock now. For the longest time they were stuck at 9 available. They still have 9.

I'm sure they'll put in an order for a third batch of Lukes, if they can. Especially with the longer than average lead time.

Ordered earlier today Had been waiting so I could combine with CW Anakin, use my extra 10% off on the already 10% discounted early bird, and apply the $100 credit from cancelling that joke of a Jawa set. Even with all those discounts applied it still cost me more than my very first Hot Toys purchase with Popcultcha all those years ago - DX07 Bespin Luke.

I hope they survive the pandemic downturn to deliver the figure in nearly TWO YEARS time.

With everything SO uncertain it is a bit freaky plopping down that much $$$ for something that is scheduled to arrive way, way beyond the timeframe you can file a Paypal dispute within or do a credit card charge back.

Yeah I think a lot of these shops are just ordering a little bit at a time now, to avoid having too much stock sitting in their back room that they can't sell. Although you wouldn't think they've be as worried about selling something like Snowspeeder Luke.

AE has it up again, with 5 available as I type this.

I think they got burned going back to the well so many times with Armored Thanos, so I don't know what metric they'll use to stop re-upping on this.
If these new 5 go relatively fast, they'll probably secure another batch.

But you never know.

Blew some PC pennies on this and POed but will be sweating on this actually being delivered. If the company goes under due to COVID fallout or whatever, the ship date is well outside the timeframe where Paypal or the CC company will give you your money back.

Really not a fan of this BS near-2 year timeframe for a preorder. Just ridiculous. A couple could have not only one but two babies in that timeframe.
