It's maybe me, but I don't think these fit OT period designs.

This is the inspiration for the look, I’d say they started in spirit and ran with a more functional pant and boot for the terrain. A modified veers/snowtrooper armor with breathing apparatus.

No doubt that the core design is very true to OT. ...but they went quite a bit more WWI military in these and they don’t seem as ‘exotic’ and simple as most OT designs. ...I do like the design anyways

You might be correct. But Mudtrooper does not remind me this, but what slikkerias said.

Not sure how people don't see the obvious connections with OT Star Wars in this figure. I could understand this with something like the Shoretrooper -- which is ANH time yet we've never seen anything like that design before, it would almost be better for 10-years-earlier like in "Solo" because it does fit somewhere in-between clone helmet and stormtrooper helmet.

It wouldn't kill them to include those pouches or belts in the final release tbh. Rather that than a Han head that looks nothing like the actor.

:lol

I can just imagine the outrage if HT gave people two pouches and a belt but didn't include the young Han Solo head.

I mean HT's OT Ben, Luke and Han look nothing like the actors, so this should fit right in.

But we obviously see the similarities to OT - especially the reuse of armor - that should be clear. All I’m saying is that the design has a more ‘realistic’ feel than most original designs were. Almost looks like they could have existed in real life doing WWI. Few original designs did that, apart from the imperial officers and the Endor Commandos. ...I’m not saying it’s a bad thing.

Solo is set quite a few years before ESB, so maybe they were going for something that looked like a precursor to the Veers outfit.

It resembles a officer uniform, rather than a trooper. And his helmet resembles WWII era helmets. And finally, he does not even have a gauntlet. All SW troopers follow a similar pattern. This just does not match that pattern. It would be more in line with SW if it was an officer uniform.

The Mudtrooper is one of my favorite new trooper designs. It's a bit more of a deep cut to previous designs than it first seems, and one of the best examples of combing OT, EU, and now Rise of the Empire era designs (RO, Solo, etc).

At its core, the Mudtrooper is technically an Imperial Army Soldier variant. If you're not a Stormtrooper or specialist in the Imperial Army, then you wore something like this. Minus the wet weather gear.

What examples of Imperial Army troopers that existed in the EU before were usually a combination of what Veers (Imperial Army Vehicle Commander) and AT-ST drivers (Imperial Army Vehicle Driver) wore. Some combination of either the jumpsuit or uniform and the helmet and sometimes the armor.

So it was nice to see a refined, canonical version of the Imperial Army Soldier that takes inspiration from the OT armor, and combines it with Rogue One trooper elements like the shin guards, arms, and back plate. It creates a very cohesive look for the time period.

Damn I am so on the fence with this guy.

I was literally looking at him the day this thread started talking about him again.

So was I until I gave in to temptation and ordered the Patrol Trooper. I noticed my usual seller sold out of the Mudtrooper the day after the Patrol Trooper released. I'd say that's a good indication of how quickly these will go upon Hong Kong release.

Just imagine how lush it would look displayed between the Patrol Trooper and RO Shoretrooper.

I watched this video and was convinced. Look at the insane detail and weathering on this.

Still on the fence?
