I think the issue is why HT doesn’t go with a plastic material head rather than cloth/mesh ..it’s hard to capture the contours of the webbing which makes them use a lens design that’s a little off. The problem I have with this NWH Tobey is it is a makeshift of the S3 suit..I never was a fan of the S3 versionI’m now fully convinced that the Raimi suit doesn’t work in 1/6 scale, especially the head. Nobody seems to be able to crack the code. I don’t even care about the seam in the head, never did. The thing that brings it down for me is the shape of the actual head and the lenses. It just isn’t right. It’s all too rounded and soft. The Raimi Spider-Man had sharp, angular features. The nose should be very prominent, as well as the chin. The lens are sharp and are positioned in a very specific way. What these companies have been doing lately has looked very generic. It’s not just Hot Toys. Hasbro, who has the benefit of sculpting in hard plastic, can’t even do the job right. Their Marvel Legends in 1:12 scale just doesn’t look like the movie.
Originally I had two of the original 143. I sold one for $500 because of the whole cracked ankle situation. When this one got announced, I sold my other one for $300 (but kept the box, stand, base and webbing effects to go with this one). Always intended to use that towards these new releases. Now seeing the final product, I don’t even want this one either. Not to say it’s bad, it’s a fine looking Spider-Man, but for $300+ the head shouldn’t remind me of the mms143, it should blow it out of the water. This isn’t a matter of “oh, the first pictures are always bad”, no those blogger pictures are great. That head is just fundamentally WRONG. The 143 was the same way but we all bought it because that was the only 1/6 Spider-Man and only Hot Toys Raimi Spider-Man to be had. I remember opening it and just wanting to change it immediately. I’m looking back at the first page of this thread with the original solicitation specs pics, and yeah, that’s not what we got. I mean it wasn’t perfect either, but it looked SHARP. Those shots are also pretty heavily photoshopped and edited. There’s that great head shot and I’m not convinced Hot Toys could get the eyes and raised webbing placement to be that perfect when we’re talking about millimeters in distance. I’m not even disappointed, this is a nice domino effect that saves me money. No classic red and blue means no temptation to own the black suit version (which is going to be just like this one, but in black and silver). No Maguire Spider-Man means no need for either version of Green Goblin.
Maybe their next Maguire 3.0 for $400 will crack the code.
Which I thought they over exaggerated the webbing colors ..
I think the NWH version should’ve been based on the S2 design which is my favorite where all the design was less flashy but looked more natural
The lenses were a bit more smaller and fitted the mask better
