What do people think of the SS ex? Worth it?

:nono

:Flush

It looks like the left over bit of sprue after building a model kit.

An idea that it'd be cool to have a stormtrooper on my desk was what led me down this rabbit hole almost three years ago.

This will likely be the best overall representation for some time to come.

It feels like ... Destiny. Nerd Destiny.

Saw this thread continue to get bumped. Wow, they are already out. You can never have enough Stormtroopers.
Really looking forward to these.

It's the type of figure that SS could do a competent job on, so I don't see any tremendous improvement which warrants must-buy if you've got a previous version already.

My dream is to have this in 1/6th scale. Hot Toys with a Tamashii 3PO & SSC Tusken( & maybe a SSC R2).

That's always been my goal too. When Han and Chewie arrived I will have accomplished it - apart from upgrades to some.

yeah, it's probably the worst exclusive I've ever seen. :lol
I don't know man, there are some laaaame exclusives out there. Like the little 3-D Iron Man toys that could have come out of a machine at the supermarket, or Sideshow's art prints that aren't in a uniform size, and require a custom made frame if you want to display them.

I have to respectfully disagree. While Hot Toys has their share of missed opportunities and lame mistakes, SSC bodies and joints are generally inferior; their accuracy record on Stormtrooper/Sandtrooper 1/6 and PF is poor; and their finishes leave something to be desired.

The proportions, finish and body quality on these is an order of magnitude greater than SSC. I'm not going to tell anyone what's acceptable as your taste and your collection is your business, but I think that measured by objective standards the Hot Toys release (in this instance) is quantifiably better than any previous release.

I've scrutinized Stormtrooper collectibles from 3.75" to prop replicas over the past couple of years, so my standards may be more stringent than a casual fan's. I may also have considerably less shame than a casual fan for admitting that. :rotfl

No doubt HT's quality is going to be better in probably all aspects, and especially handling it close-up. But for me they won't be huge differences which would jump out for shelf display viewing from 5 feet away. Also I'm no army builder and don't even like having 2 of the same character on display. And these things ain't cheap :wink1:

As someone who has both the Marmit and Sideshow Stormtroopers, these look infinitely better than either.

I'm really impressed.

That's like me and other characters I like but don't have detailed specs on. There are things I just don't see that hardcore fans do. That being said, every day there are more things I can't un-see. Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.

I have both as well, but I'm giving marmit the edge on sculpt (marginally) from what can tell, but obviously ht wins on every other measure, and ssc really isn't in the race

The Marmit sandtrooper Squad Leader release has the best helmet sculpt I've seen. The Sergeant release wasn't quite as sharp in the examples I've seen in-hand...the regular Marmit trooper was very good but maybe slightly off in terms of "snout" length and angle compared to the sandtroopers.

The proportions on Marmit helmets are all visibly, slightly variable ... I would conjecture the variability is based on variable production parameters re: materials, temperatures, moulds etc. in different production runs.

From what I can tell the HT helmet sculpt edges out the regular Marmit but is still given a run for its money by the Marmit Sandtrooper.

Wow, you guys have these in Australia already? How solid is it in hand? Post some pics! :rotfl

Are we starting a better pool on when Sideshow will update their ship date and then a side bet on what it'll be changed to?
