Like I was saying, if we are up to 10 troopers after the Flametrooper is announced (unless I'm missing any) and HT announces the OT Snowtrooper and OT Scout Trooper that's 12. I don't know where the other 30-40 troopers are going to come from to match Iron Man levels of craziness. Not to mention a lot of these troopers have more variety to the design (color aside) than many of the Iron Man figures. The two biggest factors that saw the Iron Man craze escalate as it did were Iron Man 3 showcasing 30+ new suits and customers throwing piles of cash at HT to get them all. I don't think we're going to get a single Star Wars film where they introduce that many new troopers at once.

There's shock troopers in the new battlefront game that are based off of the main Stormtrooper design. Betting we'll see those.

Of course Troopers are the cash cow. Sideshow already milked the Clones to death and there's a reason why we are seeing so many variations of Troopers in TFA because they sell more action figures and toys. They figured out that they would make more money introducing new Trooper phases for each film rather than using the same generic $tormies throughout the entire trilogy. Now we get a Trooper for every environment. mission and rank. Call me old-fashioned but I prefer the good old basic Stormtrooper. I feel that everything before and after is just a slight variation of the same basic design.

To be fair, the OT did the same thing. Sandtroopers, Snowtroopers, Scout Troopers and Stormtroopers to fill everything in between. I get that they added rank to them now, but it makes sense if you're in battle to be able to identify who's calling the shots.

If you count another 2 Sandies as milking the same cow, then I'm definitely with you. I just don't know where they go after that. They've already released the all-black arsehole-trooper. :) Maybe they'll do one where they combine pieces from each, Frankentrooper or Oreo-Trooper.

No love for the Pooper Trooper eh? :rotfl

The worst was the clones, all the multicolored variants etc. SW really just had one or two new troopers per movie. (On average)

ANH = Stormie, Sandtrooper, Spacetrooper, TIE Pilot
ESB = Snowtrooper
ROTJ = Scout trooper

With TFA it's not that much different on paper (Stormtrooper+gunner, Snowtrooper, Flame trooper, TIE Pilot) as we're sort of on track with ANH, but in ANH three of four were all very much based on the Stormtrooper, whereas the TFA ones do feel like four distinct troopers albeit with mixed and matched parts (flame trooper basically looks like a stormie with the bottom part of the snowtrooper helmet). But then on top of it they've gone and added the pauldrons and ranks for every single type it seems.

The problem will be if episode 8 has four brand new troopers and episode 9 has five brand new ones. Hopefully we get some continuity.

Yeah Kenner didn't even bother to make a vintage Sandie figure. I remember taking the smock off the Ugnaught and using it as a shoulder pauldron and a Hoth backpack to make my Sandie.

Don't forget the snow trooper commander with different boots and side arm. Then a re-release of ALL of them in die cast armor, along with Vader.

Bandai did a red trooper, and there'll be a Milk trooper. Clones were actually done right as a toyline, and Stormtroopers were a product of the 80's. A lot of learning has happened since then.

This is a discussion about a joke someone else made, not about clone backstory. :) As far as SW is concerned, there were no clones Stormtroopers in the OT. The ones still alive are seniors already in Rebels which is 5 years before ANH.
Are there some alive in Rebels? I thought clones were made for war and most would fight to the their end. I was talking getting classic stormies into TFA, they could have been iced or there were clones hiding in the army and they simply stopped aging and no one realised. Now you have classic stormies in the new movies. Better yet, they paint up in black, and these guys get sought after more than Gunmetal!

Oh yeah, TK421 and the broken scanner two set and Vader & Stormie three pack with Cloud City table.

Actually, I'd rather TFA reveal what was under the Royal Guard uniforms.

They were nekkid, like Scots under kilts. On a more serious note, there was no armor involved in neither ROTS not ROTJ.

I really hope Hot Toys makes Tarkin. That would be a truly imposing figure to display.

That would be great

Good call on the AT-AT driver. I mainly think of fully helmeted troops so I'm hesitant to add Death Star troopers and the AT-ST drivers in there. I'm sure we'll get new drivers for the walkers in TFA too.

The Royal Guards occupy their own space in my mind, as they don't seem like troopers per se. They seem more like the guards outside Buckingham palace in ROTJ than troopers like Stormies.

Problem with Tarkin is he'd have to come with a lot of accessories because he's just a barebones man-in-suit. The interrogator droid is coming with Vader (i think) and really, whatcha gonna give Tarkin? The big black meeting room table and chair? The Death Star viewscreen? This would have been more suited to Sideshow's Miliaries of Star Wars line ala Admiral Piett and Commander Praji with a pricepoint of around $120. Frankly, he would have made a better 2-pack with Leia.
