I suspect they made an absolute boatload of Jedi Luke knowing that it will eventually steadily sell out over time. Most other Star Wars figures probably get much smaller runs.
It really does go both ways. One side isn?t more innocent.Agreed. Just as I don?t see the point in anyone who likes the ST flipping out at the slightest bit of censure at the ST.
I'm gonna wait on seeing how it is in hand. It's not going to sell out right away, almost no SW figs do. If the "holy grail" that was ROTJ Luke is still available way later this will be too haha. I'll wait to see some better pics and opinions.
TBH I really only feel comfortable putting pre-orders down for figures that have helmets/masks since headsculpts can change so much from proto to production. I'll probably pre-order the Mandalorian. While I have my eye on this guy, and definitely want TROS Kylo/Rey, I'll wait for all of them to be released before buying.
With very little exception you get at least close to prototype with the final released figures from Hot Toys. Prototypes are always going to be a bit better because they?re one off pieces versus mass produced ones, but Hot Toys? quality doesn?t drop that much.Exactly my thoughts. No preorder for figures with headsculpt til HT learns to show production sample for preorder.
I’m sure that does happen and in that case they can’t really do a lot about it. It happens with companies other than Hot Toys.My issue is not quality drop in mass production. It's accepted. My issue is them changing the headsculpt due to licensor demands (they say so) between proto and production.
This is one of those HT sculpts like Obi-Wan that probably requires the right lighting in order to work well. The detail is getting washed out completely in a lot of these pics where the light is hitting him straight on, but the shots below show off the sculpt a lot better I think.
It's clearly far from 100%, but I still think it gets the job done and will probably look even better in hand.

I'm still insanely excited for this one. I think he'll look great in-hand. I didn't get the TFA Luke. So I'm good having this and the TLJ one. I do think this is a piece that'll look great in person despite all the hand-wringing based on photos.
They shouldve done that with the ESB one because I just got it and the ******* helmet / sculpt is horrid. Thankfully a friend parted with a kaiyodo for me. Now hes getting close to perfect. They did update the Vader Sculpt on the New Hope version before it came out.
This is the thing that bothered me most... that he didnt have his green saber... well besides not actually teaching rey much of anything... hell even a cool sequence of master apprentice form training wouldve been cool.
Not at all, the other two are uninspired. The hermit outfit has great design, Its even almost something they mightve stole from Assassins creed in a way. In the one hot toys shot he looks like Alta?r Ibn Al Ahad's mentor...I'm one of the crazy ones that actually prefers the look of hermit Luke over this version
Yes please!!Not until they do a complete redo of the proto and add some training accessories.
In the movie this force projected self is younger looking and cleaned up. I think this is supposed to be the best version of luke. Although I wouldve preferred the og comic take on him.The hair flares out too much and the face is too young looking. TFA Solo one of the best looking aged sculpts
More often than not if the prototype isn?t approved they?ll blur it out. That seems to only happen in instances where it?s a masked character that has an alternate unmasked head sculpt. I honestly can?t think of that many instances of a final product being drastically different than what was shown for the prototype/pre-order. Not sure what you?re referring to or if you have specific examples. Not saying it never happens, but if it does it?s never to the extent where it in no way matches what was shown.
I think I need to get this figure.
As much as I despise the ST, I need the old versions of the OT Gods.
This is the closest I will get to how an aged Luke Skywalker should look.
The White Robes are too elaborate (and they remind me that he threw his lightsaber and then, having stood around for ages on an island wearing pristine white robes in all their splendor, decided to get changed into his scruffs. Normally it's the other way round when you have visitors)
That salt base can get straight in the bin though.
I would wait until the new movie comes out. Could end up being a better version of luke in a flashback or as a ghost. This version of Luke will always be easy to get for retail or less.
