... I want to see some dead accurate likenesses!

I think that is where Hot Toys clearly beats Sideshow.

And in relation to the discussion taking place, that doesn't diminish their (Sideshow's) products by any means, it's just a different artistic approach which happens to be considered "superior" by many collectors. Just a personal taste.

In the end it's a matter of having options, so if this news really turn out to be true, we will all win IMO

If ht help ss match their quality of paint apps and likinesses all is good ( remembering that hot toys sculpts aren't always perfect but damn close)

For the record as well - im not anti hot toys or Anyones freedom to express their opinions but let's all keep it friendly and constructive.

I'm quite gutted I missed out on the Sideshow Darth Vader. It looked perfect as is. The only thing people improved on it was the cape but we all know Hot Toys attempts on capes are very poor.

I really dont want to get too much into the whole debate over who is the best and who sucks etc... BUT I will say this, some of those posters lashing out at other people for bad mouthing SS and not respecting other people's tastes are just as guilty for bashing Medicom and Enterbay in the UU thread. I bashed Medi and Enterbay's UU Luke as well, but I'm not attacking anybody else for expressing their love or disdain for another product. i think some people are being quite hipocritical. It says Sideshow up on the top, but I think we have all grown to accept that this forums scope goes well beyond SS.

As far as my take goes, When SS first started the Sideshow and LOTR line, I jumped on board, really impressed with what could be done, as my only real previous experience had been Hasbro. Over time the SS prices kept rising, the quality went up as well, but not at the same pace as the prices.

Much later I discovered Hot Toys, and was once again blown away at just what could be accomplished with a 1:6 figure. I was just as amazed in the jump of quality with HT compared to SS, as I was with SS compared to Hasbro.

I think this experience is where alot of dissatisfaction with Sideshow comes from. The prices are near HT, but not the quality, and while we still have a warm spot in our hearts for SS, we see what could be done with our figures if they were handled with the same attention to detail. I don't so much think it is hate that is driving this thread, as much as it is envy and a desire to have SS either take that next big leap to match HT's quality, or to see what HT could do with our favorite figure line.

I dont consider myself an Iron Man fan, but I was so blown away with the Iron Man figures that I have purchased one and pre-ordered another. If they can make a non fan plunk down $350 for two figures he never thought he would buy, imagine the excitement that would be fueled by a Star Wars line. The 36 pages on this thread are pretty strong proof alone.

For the record, i dont want SS to stop making Star Wars, nor do I think they will anytime soon. I would however like HT to handle certain figures. HT could do the core figures (as I and many have mentioned) and leave the side characters (aliens and clones) to SS. HT's strengths lie in the human head sculpts and unorthodox bodies, while SS is very good with the Alien and Clone figures.

This would be a perfect resolution to this situation.

I disagree. Paint apps, yes, wholeheartedly. But as far as likenesses, both companies have their hits and misses and are fairly equal in that category. That said, with Harrison and Hamill, Sideshow takes the cake as far as better. It'll be interesting to see what HT does, but I don't think they'll match Trevor's work and Hamill is a really hard likeness to nail. Sideshow did with Jedi Luke, and Luke in Stormtrooper disguise, Moisturefarmboy was good too, but the others were still close. If Enterbay can't nail Luke with their EB/Medi "ultimate fail" figure, I'd be at least a bit worried about HT.

Believe me when I say HT SW will cost closer to $200 with SSC, Hasbro and LFL licensing fees. So, with that, I will never understand how the price of a $90 Clone trooper can be compared to what HT would charge $180+ for. This has been a longstanding argument with HT's SSC haters and SSC SW collectors and to this day it still makes absolutely no sense at all. And if you bring up the Deluxe Clones as an example, you wouldn't be touching HT versions for under $200. So, when you look at this, the price range is between 40%-60%. The quality difference between the two is not that great. So when that's taken into account, you get a better judgment of the products themselves.

So we all agree that both companies have their strong and weak points (hits and misses), but they are the best in the business? :lol

The interesting thing to consider is what would result from their collaboration :yess:

I'd lurk then or at least be respectful to other members who collect the product you think is "below" your fave.

As far as the rules its about respecting anothers viewpoints and what they collect. For many thats an issue cause they get pretty damn hateful.

I wouldn't lurk just because I don't like Sideshow and I am on a SS Forum, that's bull.

It is about respecting others ultimately of course, but all I see are massive backlash posts from certain people because members dislike SS/prefer HT. Could just be me.

No, I don't think so. As a collector of a product that is said to be crap I'd be a bit irked that someone insinuates that I collect crap. Folks should take the time to actually explain why they don't like something. Could just be me though.

Well I think that could just be you, no disrespect. But you may be taking that too personally.

Who cares what other people think? If you like it and enjoy what you collect and get for your buck, who gives a rat's ass?

How far back does that go? as I was quite late to the 1/6 world. A lot of stuff I've missed out on because of it.

You are probably right, since so many are getting a cut of the profits, but I already expected this, to be honest.

It all comes down to wait and see.

If the figures are done as well as some of HT's better successes, then I will part with the money (even $200) for some select Characters. I could see me spending the money on a Chewbacca, Luke and Han if they are Home Runs. If they arent amazing though, I wont buy them...

...but man, I cant wait to see what they could do.

Hamill, Ford, and Christensen seem to be three of the hardest likenesses to nail and to date Trevor is the only one to master any one of them, let alone all three. It'll be interesting to see if HT can equal or better him (assuming they actually do have the license, bla bla bla.)

I doubt anybody would hesitate dropping $200 on a furry 1:6 Chewbacca if HT nails it. Not even Prog.

I said the likeness on that figure sucked cause it looks nothing like who its supposed to but maybe some random stunt double.

If you never have anything good to say about another companies products why bother posting? Sorry thats not Bull thats just being a ******, troll, etc

Its just you.

I said that more tongue and cheek knowing its not just me. :lol

I don't disagree. However, I'm not going to go about being a total _______ to people in threads dealing with products that I don't like or while making my point be an ass towards something unless I like an adult can say my point of view.

I don't follow?

If you mean I shouldn't care about people dissing what I collect, I don't. Just get fed up when members start on other members, instead of products.

:goodpost:

talk about products, not people. something both sides should remember.

Josh is irked!!! :yess:

I think SS hit a low point about two years ago when it seemed as if every release had issues. Their QC has been virtually non-existent at times and this has given them a bad rep.... Couple that with the fact that HT is pumping out high quality figures over and over and it becomes pretty obvious as to why people bad mouth SS.

The good thing about Padme or Leia is that Hot Toys wouldn't have to go for rooted hair, but sculpted as the male figures, which means 100% awesomeness

padme_full.jpg
Leia+Forever.jpg

Both of these would be amazing...

female figures would be nice. SSC recently said something about a new female body. It wouldn't surprise me if that had HT cooperation there, like the Hobbit body did.
