I've always been curious, why are you not allowed to say anything bad about customizers, but you're allowed to nitpick an 'official' product to death??

Customizers in general tend to be just amateurs enjoying the hobby while Hot Toys is a business selling really expensive figures. We're going to nitpick the one we have to pay $200 for versus the average Freak who's just posting the stuff he made for fun.

Jimmiroquai's Sucker Punch ladies aren't movie-accurate likenesses, and yes the heads are rough, but they are scratch built and still capture the general essence of what the theme is. We know who these are, and they are his own style. i know I can't sculpt a head for beans. Plus he did the lot of them, including the enemies, dios, Scott Glenn, and such in the time it took HT to do their two prototypes.

I frequently get asked why I discourage critiques of my work.

All of my work represented here on dA is commercial. For each piece, I work closely with design teams, art directors, and licensors, and each piece I do is run through a gauntlet of critiques. I sculpt things the way my clients want them sculpted. The last thing I really need to hear when I post something to a site like dA is 'It would be better if only you would...' It's not my decision to make it better. Also, and I don't mean to insult most of you, the critiques and recommendations given here usually aren't coming from working artists. Working artists already understand all of this, and they know that the piece has already been through the aforementioned gauntlet.

I frequently read comments which protest that I could still learn something from blah blah blah. At the risk of sounding rude or arrogant, save it. I've been sculpting professionally for the past 14 years. That's sculpting for the special effects industry, film set production, and collectibles. I currently work with the top art directors in the collectibles industry. If they've not caught a 'mistake' in my work, don't think you have. Sorry, go feel validated somewhere else.

Perhaps its the wine that makes me sound harsh, but it's probably not. It's probably that I'm just tired of some inexperienced, puffed up 'artist' telling me that the legs I sculpt are too long. Well, the guy that signed the check wanted them that way, and I might think they look cool that way too.

In short, remember what your mama taught you, 'If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all'.

Of course. But consumer/critics throwing their two cents in at the end of the process has always cracked me up, particularly in situations like what he was responding to.

Cool! I think it was a good decision to go rooted for baby.

Amber is looking good. Want moar pics!!!

He is talking about a whole different thing altogether.

The earlier comment was really more about the quality of the HS not matching the quality of the costumes but everyone here seems to take that as a personal attack against the guy who made them.

I can see where Tim Miller is coming from because a lot of the creative decisions are taken away from his hand but what about a writer who pretty much works alone or at most with his editor?

Is he going to give the same reason that since the editor is ok with it then everyone else has no right to critique cause that is just pure horse____.

I totally agree. I meant that Artist of any magneto have suffered critics. And I totally agree with his answer to them.
I once posted customs of my Butch and Sundance on another forum and got different responses. Which I was fine with. I know Sundance came out better then Butch, but I don't sculpt and had to use what was available. But one guy must of posted at least four time how much Butch didn't look like him that I finally told him, 'I heard you. But till someone makes a better sculpt I be happy with it as they are from one of my favorite westerns.'
In the end it's what make you happy, as you can't please everybody.

I wonder if the Sucker Punch figures will have any Diorama or additional bases to pose with....
Would be cool if they do and I hope the HS can be more life-like as I cant bear the thought of getting barbie-doll like figures from Hot Toys.
