Hey guys,

I need your advice in this. Like some of the users here, I also missed out to buy the T-800 from Hot Toys. Have started to collect really late (with the TDK line) but would like to have a endo in my collection so badly. But the prices are so high at ebay and everywhere else, so I've played with the idea to buy a T-700 and modify him so that he looks like a T-800.

So my question is, is there any differences at all between those two figures? I know the materials on the T-700 is a bit different and rougher, but anything else? And those of you who have him in hand, is it possible to sand the rough surface to look just even and clean?

Cheers

I would not advise you to sand the T-700 unless you are VERY skilled.
My advice it to simply paint it as a battle damaged T-800.

The only differences are the texture, paint, base, box, and lack of 3 weapons.
Oh, the T-700 has stiffer joints too.

Agree with everything FACEBOX said. The texture isn't just sitting on the surface; it's also in the details. You'll never get it to look quite like an 800, but in person it isn't bad at all as is. I actually like it better. And, technically, the 700 endos are the 800s in the TS timeline.

But no weapons. But you can give it anything a resistance fighter might carry. Weapons are pretty wide open on this. Miniguns are always fun with Terminators.

I also missed the T800 which was my first choice but compared to what the prices there going for (especially in the U.K) the 700 is a great compromise.
Oh yeah buy a weapon for him too :p

It's still possible to get a good deal on the 800 if you look around in the right places and have a little luck. I just got a loose battle damaged 800 for $240 and a Plasma Rifle for a quick reapint job. For that figure these days, that's not bad.

Indeed but the T-700 is also the T-800 in the Salvation timeline that got molten metal poured all over it which is why it got that rough surface. In the movie, the 800 looked pretty smooth and shiny after the skin was burned off just like its predecessors.

And both are really good figures but yea the value of the T-800 went up waaaaay too much when the movie came out. Settle for the 700 and just keep looking around for a great deal on the 800. You might get lucky one day.:D

Good deal! Is it in the post yet?

Yessir. Let me know when you get it.

Not so. The original script has them as 700s, and the design team textured them according to McG's desire for everything in his movie to have a gritty look to it. From a design point of view, they are 700s, but because the dialogue was changed to refer to them as 800s, they are now just alternate timeline textured 800s. This change was done so late in production that none of the toy companies had time to relabel all their advertising and packaging and we have T-700 figures.

Now, the actual 800 (Arnold) which was added very late in production is smooth like the 800 endo is supposed to be, but even it was slightly different from the original design. This one had extra plating over the deltiod area, and the upper arm beams were curved outward to give it a kinda muscular look from the front without any skin on.

All that said, the Hot Toys 700 is still a TS timeline 800.

Hahaha! Full circle. But yea I read about that. Freakin' McG.

I just guessed that since Skynet was making so many T700's the rough texturing is due to them doing it on the cheap or something where as the Arnold T800 they took more care in making it, even though the're machines and I'm not sure they do budgeting.

Cost wouldn't be an issue, but you do sorta have a point within the McG universe. That is that Terminators are more depicted as soldiers rather than the special ops infiltrators they are meant to be. Yes, there is a factory, but I don't think Skynet would really be just kranking them out the way McG makes it look. At least not until the very end of the war when John is practically knocking on Skynet's front door and the need for infiltrators is over as depicted in the opening of T2. It's all out field war then. And when John defeats even them, Skynet resorts to time incursion.

If you're not keen to own T-800 now, I sugguest you rather wait as believes HT shall redo T-800 somehow....someday from the sequel of TS. IMO

Surfer Im surprised you havent tried a conversion with the T-700. Guess because youve already have the T-800. Ive been thinking whenever Ive got the extra cash, to buy another T-700 and try it out. Sanding the major surfaces and using a chrome spraypaint, all with great care of course, might produce a decent stand in.

Don't try to sand or customize the T-700 sculpt, it is completely different and you will damage the figure. Here's my side-by-side pics:

Perhaps the alloy metal they were using was corroded by all the salt air weather etc.?

Looks similar enough to save $200, atleast to me.

I thought the same thing, but figured it would be cool to have one of each of the Endoskeletons. Now I just need the T-600 to round out my Endos.

The t-800 looks awesome! Really sucks how I missed out on that one. Hopefully hot toys will make a t-800 from salvation.

They really should, cause it was significantly different enough to not be a straight re-release with the deltiod plates and the reshaped upper arm beams. They could even do it with burnt flesh on it. If they do release it, but without flesh, that will be my custom mod on that.

Right, I actually have four 800s including my crawling torso version, limping T1 pose, and now two BD endos, so yeah, didn't feel the need.

I wouldn't say completely. Structurally it's the same, but the surface on the 700 is significanlty altered so much so that sanding isn't the answer.

The figures do look a bit like 800s with corrosion, but really, the movie prop texture is not pitted, but stands out from the surface. Besides, these are supposed to be fresh off the assembly line. Any texture would have been in the casting process. Perhaps there should be a final step of buffing and polishing before cyborg skin is added.

However, this is an alternate timeline war we are seeing now, so you could assume that the hyper alloy had either not yet been developed or the formula was lost when the Cyberdyne building was blown up in T2. Hence the difference in color, and in the case of the 600s, the fact that they seem to tarnish and get a little rusty looking.

Personally I perfer the way the 700 figure looks. I like the gunmetal color, and the texture makes more sense if you want flesh to stick to it. I always wondered how skin was supposed to stick to the chromed finish of the T2 Endos.
