One would say 'because he knew they wouldn't be much use' except he bothered his arse to shoot the T-800 with a handgun so who knows.

What he should have done though was remove and destroy the T-800s chip after he impaled him through his power centre. He could have easily fashioned a tool from his hand to gain access to the chip. Bit of a lack of thoroughness there.

He could have done that but his mission was not to kill the T-800. He went after Connor. If doing that he might have lose time and Sarah run away.

I know its overanalysing but if the T-1000 was so concerned about not wasting any time properly finishing off the T-800 then why did he constantly walk after John instead of running?

He does run after John Connor at the Galleria and Pescadero. If you mean the Steel Mill well I always figured the glitching messed with his ability to run. It's sort of like the T-800 in the first film. It limps slowly towards Sarah and Kyle.

Yeah but he only ran when John was on or in a vehicle. If he ran after John when John was on foot he could have caught him and killed him easily. But I know, I know - wouldn't have been much of a movie if that had happened.
