Doll? Action Figure? Manchild wallet emptier?

Call them what you wish, but one of these nostalgia based movie memorabilia products in the shape of Brandon Lee is gonna be mine the moment I can part with money for the short haired, horse toothed, no cool base, near weaponless bad *** mutha. *

I want it boxed in black cardboard wrapped in barbed wire and black electricians tape, with the movie logo placed in the center.

Exactly. I'm honestly excited for this. I've loved The Crow since I saw it in '94 so more than half my life. My James O'Barr-signed Special Edition GN and Blu-ray are among my prized possession. McFarlane's figure was pretty much my first step into the adult collectibles market, and even though I'm cutting back on my high-end collectibles I had already decided that a Crow figure from Hot Toys would be a must-buy.

But I'd never try to convince someone it wasn't a doll.

It's not a matter of disagreeing or agreeing because its a matter of fact, not opinion.

The term "action figure" was coined by Hasbro to sell dolls to boys. That is beyond debate. Whatever Hot Toys is calling their action figures is just an extension of that euphemistic rebranding.

It's open to opinion ever since the fact that different people can have different views and interpretations.

If you feel comfortable with your interpretations, that's fine. I respect that you have a different way of thinking, but as long as someone else thinks differently, no opinion is absolute.

So... back at The Crow, now? :wink1:

I'd like something involving this.

That's a great idea man!! :hi5:

I'd use that for the inner front cover 'door flap' ..if that's how they're doing the box. Lately they been doing less of the book style boxes, & more the shoe box lifting top kind.

So! The DVD cover art for the front - & the burning crow for the inner flap. The back of the box can be either of these two:

Let me be more clear. Let's get back to the topic of the Crow figure from Hot Toys.

If you want to have the ridiculous semantics debate of action figure vs doll then start a thread in the Other Topics discussion and discuss it there or take it to Private Messages.

well said.yep we will all have different opinions, but that's all they are opinions.so come on crow/Brandon fans lets get back on track.

People call them dolls all the time when they see my collection. It doesn't bother me. Think about. Someone who isn't in the hobby and isn't on these forums talking about it see them as dolls. I understand that. I even refer to them as "dollies." :lol

Its usually just macho bull**** when men get offended or butt hurt about the term "doll."

My family rib me all the time about them being dolls. I refer to them as "man dolls" just because they get a rise out of it.

Doesn't bother me. They're nice dolls :D

I'd like if the box art resembled his tombstone, dark gray and textured

Tombstone box idea is f'in awesome.

Sorry, but...

"A doll is a model of a human being, often used as a toy for children. Dolls have traditionally been used in magic and religious rituals throughout the world, and traditional dolls made of materials like clay and wood are found in the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe. The earliest documented dolls go back to the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece and Rome. Dolls being used as toys was documented in Greece around 100AD. They have been made as crude, rudimentary playthings as well as elaborate art. Modern doll manufacturing has its roots in Germany going back to the 15th century. With industrialization and the appearance of new materials like porcelain and plastic, dolls were increasingly mass-produced. During the 20th century dolls became increasingly popular as collectibles."

"An action figure is a poseable character figurine, made of plastic or other materials, and often based upon characters from a film, comic book, video game, or television program. These action figures are usually marketed towards boys and adult collectors. It is argued that action figures are particularly popular with boys because they represent traditional masculine traits and are closely associated with the public sphere.[1] While most commonly marketed as a children's toy, the action figure has gained wide acceptance as an adult collector item. In such a case, the item may be produced and designed on the assumption it will be bought solely for display.

By these definitions from wiki, the Crow by Hot Toys sounds like it falls more into the "action figure" category, but I have no problem with calling them Actions Figures or Dolls, really. My friend calls them dolls because he thinks hes getting a rise out of me and I shake my head and laugh (at him).

But really, WHO GIVES A **** WHAT THEY ARE CALLED? :cuckoo: :cuckoo: :cuckoo:

A doll has a naked body with removable clothes. An action figure has painted molded clothes. The molded hair kinda makes it a little less "doll" I suppose. Thats pure personal opinion based on where I draw the line on what I collect.

Anyways I wish he had another head without a smile. I just don't like fixed smiles (like barbie). I still like it lots, but for $180+ I am on the fence.

Wow, arguing over action figures and dollies.

The manufacturer calls it a "collectible figure", that's good enough for me.

This is still going on? I thought we agreed to disagree before.

Guys, if you feel better calling them "dolls", that's fine. It's your prerogative, opinion, feeling, or whatever you want to call it. To you it's a matter of semantics, to me they are two different kinds of toys with little in common.

It doesn't have anything to do with "insecurities" or any sort of ridiculous pseudo psychological mumbo-jumbo. It's called an opinion. That it's different or opposite to some of yours, doesn't make me crazy, or insecure, or macho, or misogynist, or anything like that.

What is ridiculous here is that someone actually tries to disqualify me as a person (directly or indirectly), because of what you yourselves insist on calling a matter of semantics. Really? Personal attacks due to semantics? Who's being insecure there? Think about that.

I'm still in awww over the fact that we are finally getting this figure. The crow has been at the top of my wish list for a long time. $240 seems high to me, however I cringe to think of how much I would actually be willing to pay for this figure.

Doll, action figure, toy, whatever the hell it is... it exists and it looks great and that's all that matters.
