Blows my mind to think that the SH Figuarts version costs a whopping third of the price of this.

Don't know if SHF are that much better than Black Series these days.

Yes, that’s what I meant :)

Blows my mind how people drop a hundred on what is essentially, at the end of the day, a six inch mass market figure when they could buy less of those to be able to afford figures like these.

Same for the BS and SHF. Still blows my mind how people army build those nasty, cheap figures when for the same price they can get a couple of decent figuarts. Then again, I guess it’s the same reason why people prefer to eat cheap takeout food day in day out rather than save up and splurge on one good meal once a week or once a month.

SHF/Mafex has always hovered around the 1/3 price of Hot Toys. Especially imported pricing.

Whether they’re worth it is up to the individual though. To us, it’s 1/3 of the price. To owners, it’s ~$200 saved and it adds up with every figure.

Yes, but many people who collect six inch Japanese figures hardly ever stop at one. If we’re being honest, even BS collectors must’ve spent the equivalent of a shelf-ful of HT figures by now. I can understand the size/scale argument, but I was looking at it from a strictly quality/price angle.

I mean different strokes for different folks. I'm sure people have their reasons.

One can also take your point of view a step further and say why do people spend money on Hot Toys when you can put just build life-size costumes. A life-size Stormtrooper/Scout Trooper/TIE Pilot can be easily had for a little over $1k :dunno

The SHF Heavy Mando is excellent and is one of their best figures in terms of paint. Black Series figures is actually a bit inaccurate since it was based on prototype stuff, they had those figures in hand, ready to ship when the episode launched, so they produced them months before. There's definitely a gigantic market for high end 1/12 scale stuff, lots of people just don't have all the space.

Just can't beat real tailored fabrics, no visible joints and the level of detail on Hot Toys imo. Quality in relation to price is definitely there imo. Black Series/SHF/Mafex etc. look like toys, these looks like the character plucked from the screen and shrunken down, that's the appeal for me. I want toys but I don't want them to look like toys, and that costs a premium.

Yes, I agree 100%. But I’m also coming from a kind of ‘upwardly mobile’ toy collecting trajectory, if such a thing exists in toy collecting. One starts where one starts, and then tastes develop, they evolve, and the same goes for movies, music and what have you, but not everyone is like that, I have to admit. Some people start somewhere, and are perfectly happy to stay there.

It's kind of different. I don't collect those but the advantage of 3.75" and 6" is they do get a LOT more characters to collect. Getting a bunch of figures and vehicles to create scenes are much easier than 1/6. It's a different kind of entertainment really.
