a great base for ME custom :horror
jokes aside, if it resembled the armor i used a little more, and if i talked myself into buying Legion, and if i found a toy head that matched my character, i'd be so happy to buy the suit.

It's hardly "Star Wars related". It's simply that it had an influence among some of the production designers & artists; and that's not exactly hugely widely known, either.

Similarly, yeh, it's comics, but how many people had heard of Valerian & Laureline until, I don't know, around the time this film was announced? European comics still have a (sadly) low general profile. Hell, Moebius is still an unknown quantity for many, and obviously if you know about him it's hard to understand how, but that's how it is.

So I admire your optimism :) But I think you're confusing something you already know about with how it's generally perceived - some scifi film by Luc Besson (and an "unsuccessful scifi film by Luc Besson" too, judging by the way many people rate things by the bottom line). I suspect you're more clued up on it than Howard's marketing department, sir :)

nope, i'm just saying that all formal things force HT to do it :)
note that i didn't include "famous" in them. on purpose.

The sad thing is, if had a Marvel logo on it, people would be tripping over themselves about it. It's a pretty solid if unremarkable film.. and in that respect surely gets 4 and 5 star reviews ;)

(I mean, Valerian's hardly going to redefine cinema; but since they settled into the cookie-cutter "ongoing comics/crossover event" mode of their films, the last half dozen Marvel films have been exceedingly average to actually quite poor. But hey kids, 5 STARS! SUPERB! Valerian tho, gah, what a lame duck. Etc etc)

After watching the anime recently, I can see what they were trying to do in the movie.

Of course, the visual effects were impressive.

I hope these licensed figures get produced.

It really, really doesn't matter in the slightest what the box office of any film is, unless you're a studio beancounter, one of the producers... or work in Hot Toy's licensing department, and have to occasionally justify things to Howard. Not a barometer of subjective quality. Money never is. Look at Suicide Squad, just a recent example. Utter ****e, made pots for the shareholders.

Will these toys actually appear tho? Now there's a question. Have HT ever junked a toy that appears to be finished? Pr*m*th*us Shaw we know about, but that was always absent a headsculpt and so forth...

These figures will release as part of a multi-figure pack which will include The 2 Valerian figures, Crossbones, Yellow Jacket, and Romero Joker for good measure...ETA Q2 20...never...

Read an article today stating that the breakeven point for this movie was $400M. Also heads have started to roll at Europacorp likely due to the non performance of this movie.

Box-office can point to the popularity of a certain license, Valerian just didn't make the cut.

Over half on the overseas box-office came from France and China, no other countries seemed to care.

As a big proponent of Hot Toys diversifying their licenses and not just making figures of the latest Marvel, DC, and Star Wars releases it pains me to say this but there is absolutely no reason for Hot Toys to ever release these. Which is why they won't. Some movies like Pacific Rim for example underperformed in the US but did well enough elsewhere and then garnered cult followings. Makes sense to license something like that. Valerian appears destined to slip away and be forgotten outside of this very thread.
