How did Poptoys go from making highly detailed movie and historical figures to making basically nothing these days?

They used to release several figures per year. Granted the quantity they produced of each figure was low, hence why figures of theirs that are even just a couple of years old are so hard to find these days. But compare their 2022 lineup to the figures they released in 2024 (they didn't release anything in 2023). They only released a few figures in 2024, most of which were just people in business suits (as if nobody else is making suits) with few to no accessories.

As someone who is fruitlessly searching for some of their older figures including the Last Samurai ones, I can't help but feel resentful that instead of making more of these figures, or figures from some other movie, they're meandering with a couple of generic looking guys in suits and nothing else.

What happened to them that they're making so few and so mundane figures nowadays?

It seems like it's not only them. Toys Era/Premium Toys and SooSoo seems to have slowed down as well, but maybe due to their backlogs of existing unfulfilled pre-orders. Let's not even get started with Limtoys. The third parties really seem to have cooled down, I think a lot of them really rode that superhero wave of movies that's now pretty much ended.

I can't speak for third party superhero figures, but a lot of companies that were making historical warriors or third party figures from historical action movies have also slowed down. Not just Poptoys, but also HHMode/HaoYuToys - you'd think that with Gladiator 2 coming out they'd at least reissue their Maximus figure. Or they'd follow up their seamless Achilles figure with a redo of Hector and Paris. Coomodel hasn't slowed down per se, but their quality has notably decreased.
