That will cost you.
I been thinking of caving in for a detolf. However, for 75 bucks Cdn one has to think if the craftmanship involved isn't the greatest. I have a Buhler cabinet and those can go for well over a grand. Granted it's a Buhler, it's much larger, detailed and also has a mirror in it. Still, I want to make certain that my cats can't topple this thing over. What's the integrity on these detolfs? Do they wobble easily? Or are they solid?

Planning to put some of my newly purchased 1/4 Premium Formats in them.

Thanks in advance.

I have three and use them all for smaller Gentle Giant items. I have had no problem, but I do get a little nervous when people bump them walking by. (The glass shelves are just kind of sitting on the metal framework and can be easily made crooked.) I know that other people take out two of the shelves and use the larger space to display their 1/4 scale figures, and they seem to work fine for that. Just make sure that they aren't too heavy. The total weight load for the thing probably assumes that you are using all four shelves. The unit holds about fifty pounds, but that doesn't mean that going down to two shelves means you can now put 25 on each. As long as you don't bump into the thing on a regular basis, and don't overload each shelf beyond 12 or 13 pounds, you should be fine. I personally think that the quality is just fine for the price, but there is obviously no comparison between them and the $1200 cabinet I bought for my LOTR stuff. But they will do their job well if loaded properly and put in the right place.

Think a cat could knock them over easily?

This cat could:

But honestly, I don't see them getting completely knocked over easily--maybe the items inside getting knocked over, but not the whole unit. And especially if you are talking about a PF, which will have a nice wide and solid footprint, you should be fine.

Is that your cat?! HOLY CRAP AND I THOUGHT MY CAT WAS HUGE! The fur makes him larger than he looks in that picture but that's still one big feline!

No, that's not my cat. Let me just say that I will never own a cat. I am more of a dog person. But even that cat would have a hard time knocking over a Detolf.

I had my detolfs for over 6 years, i bought them when Ikea open it's first store in IL, and it even survived a small flood in my parents basement so i say money well spent, it held all my mcfarlane toys before i came across sideshow and There pretty solid and i have carpet.

Boo! Dog people! Well, my uncle has a greyhound and they are very quiet dogs. Well this one is. It never barks and it doesn't produce a lot of oil in its fur so when you pet it, it feels like a cat. Also is very playful and well mannered. Extremely fast! Was rescued from death (being put down). She's a retired race dog. Ever since I been in contact with that dog I absolutely have a love for dogs again.

I wonder if my dog would try to chase that cat?

And Detolfs are pretty sturdy. I don't recommend running into them or anything, but that goest for any other case.

I wonder what is the heaviest 1/4 Premium Format someone has displayed on one of the Detolf's shelves...

You also need to be careful because the Detolf is only 15-16" deep. You may have a hard time putting characters with swords or light sabers in there. Han, Luke, and Leia have no problem but I'm not sure about Obi and Vader. And GG is certainly out of the question.

As far as how much weight, I know I wouldn't put Lurtz on one of those shelfs. But you can always put your heaviest on the bottom. But I think most PF's in the 15 lb range will be fine.

Look around in the Show Your Shelves threads or use the search to find threads. There are plenty of people here that use them for PF's/statues and have pictures in various threads.

I have my Lurtz exclusive on one of the glass shelves. It's holding up just fine right now....

I really hope for your sake that Lurtz is on the bottom....I wouldn't want to chance it.....

I have seven Detolfs at the moment and ne'er a problem with any of them. For the price they are perfect.

For the record the heaviest PF I have on an actual shelf (not the bottom) is Vader.

these things looks great and from what i've seen they can hold some great things on their shelves. i've seen someone that had two detolfs with obi wan and vader on the glass shelves and they seemed strong enough to hold. i dont know the actual weight of the PF lurtz but im sure he could sit somewhere in or on top of the detolf.

I'm going to be in the neighborhood of an IKEA tomorrow and was hoping to pick up one for my Jason PF and another for my Freddy PF. After reading this thread, I'm not so sure (actually, I wasn't really sure if Jason would fit in one or not but he can't be much bigger than the Lurtz, can he?

Pictures would help this thread a great deal... :monkey3

...pictures of the cabinet, not the cat :lol

As you wish, these are some I had on file though, not really taken for this thread.
