How Many Playstation 3 's Have Broke On You ?????

Well i need to get this out there beacuse i am sick and tired of this Bull $ hit /// 1st off i have owned a PS3 since the week it got released (60gb backwards compatablity)

my 1st 60gb lasted me a little under a year , then it happened. It wouldn't read ANY discs , so i contacted Sony and they sent me a box withy a prepaid UPS sticker and i sent it back to Sony under warranty . They fixed it and i got it back in about 2 weeks

to my suprise it had a "refurbished sticker" on it where the original Sony tamper proof tab would be. ok fine

Then that fixed PS3 they sent me did not have a NEW warranty at all , i was SOL at that point if it broke again.


Well guess F'In what it broke within 4 months

so at that point i just said F' it and i just bought another PS3 at bestbuy (40gb) this would be #3 console , and i just hung onto my broken 60gb . later down the road about last year i decided to sell my broken 60gb on ebay and i got $180 bucks for it .. not bad huh .

so just about 3 weeks ago my new 40gb that i bought just broke , same problem as the rest (doesn't read any disc at all )


i have had it!!!!!!!!!!! so i disassembled the god Daaaam thing myself to try and clean dust outta it ,nothing. So after taking it apart 3 or 4 times i kinda mastered it ... so i bought a laser on ebay for $29 bucks ( i ordered it on x-mas and it was delivered on that following tuesday) and i changed it myself and behold IT WORKS BEAUTIFUL.


so to save aggravation and time i did it myself

so my question to all you fellow FREAKS out there is , How many PS3's have you gone through? my total is 4


the next time this happens i am switching to Xbox


If anyone has a PS3 that doesn't read discs and doesn't want to send it to sony for the $150.00 or its outta warranty . i will fix it for you for a small fee , you just buy the RIGHT LASER and send it to me with a prepaid postage so i can send it back to you .

My first one lasted a month before the disc reader stopped working. At least my Xbox lasted a year before it RRoD.

My 360 just died last week (Red Rings of Death FTW!!!). And by Xbox 360 standards I was lucky since I have an original 20 GB Pro (original motherboard) and had it since 2006 with no problems. Bought it in December after Gears of War came out and in anticipation of Halo 3. So I got almost 4 years out of it before it died. And trust me, that's LONG for an Xbox 360, especially an original one. Most can last anywhere from a few months to a few years.

Bought the one that came with Metal Gear....haven't had any problems with it but I've only played 3 games on it since owning it. I bought my mom one at that time too and she games and watches movies and it still works.

believe me i've heard of the redring of death .. wow man thats awesome that yours lasted soooooo long . i dont think i would switch just because i hate the xbox controllers

My original Xbox still works fine, but I don't use it as much ,its now in my Bedroom and have an Elite as my primary,

Dude, mine just crapped out yesterday, samething, starts up the discs and the freezes or wont read any further. 185$ to fix with a 90 day warranty, so I said ____ it and bought a new one at cosco for 250$.
Can you really fix my old one? Im really pissed cause its not even 5 years old and I spent over 500$ on it

yeah if the problem is that it won't read ANY disc , then you need a new laser , which depending on the model you have the price of the laser is from $29 -49.97

the one i bought last week went up in price from $28.95 - $35.25



yes i can change the laser for you just get the right one and take it from there , you need to check on the back of the console for the model number

be aware buddy , like i said in the 1st post , i've had my ps3 since it got released , i've made friends along the way , some since the 1st night on it and about 20% of them has had this happen to them. numerous times at that /// just try not to over use it

I'd say it was the "middle" model...80GB, backwards compatible, released about a year after the initial ones.

Yeah mine's a newer model and stays on pretty much constantly between Netflix and discs. Maybe I'll luck-out.

These companies are gonna have to fix this issue with the next gen consoles though. Microsoft is really fortunate in still having such a loyal fan-base despite their piss-poor product.

Everyone I know with a 360 is on #3 at the very least, and I finally "donated" my most recent one to my son, and a few days ago it stopped playing a new game he got for Christmas.

I'm not going to go into my stories (which I've ranted about plenty on these boards), so I'll just say that I'm on my fourth right now. Two broke on me, I sold the third before it had the chance and bought a slim.

The slim has been rock solid since. (knock on wood)
