How Much Would You Pay For Daddy Balrog?

I paid about $ 1600 for mine in 2005, which was a pretty decent price at the time - I was a bit disappointed about the size when I first saw him in "real life", though, but that has worn away over time and I like him very much and hopefully will never have to give him away. It also has a higher emotinal value to me since I had it signed by John Howe.

To answer your question about how much we would pay for him today, I'd say I would pay about $1500 for a mint one - I just bought one yesterday for $ 1460 together with a Fellbeast, but it was pretty dusty and is missing the outer glossy box. (It wasn't for myself, but for a friend who would have paid $ 1700 for the two)

If secondary market value didn't exist, my fave would prob be Ringwraith on Steed and the Witch King statue, then the Balrog of Moria.

If secondary market value didn't exist, Gandalf on Shadowfax, Cave Troll and Ringwraith on Steed would be on top of my list...

I can still remember e-mailing SS way back when, asking how much it would be to ship it to Australia, this was back before they got us a better /cheaper rates ...And from memory it was like $250USD...and I thought, that's as much as the statue itself!! Needless to say, I passed on buying it...If only I knew...But, now...I think it's worth, maybe $1200...

This is one statue I desperately want(above all Weta and many SS), but know I will never afford. Very sad....:monkey2

YEah, Me too BD

This is the statue I really whant in my collection but I doubt that I will ever get it. (If the price wouldnt keep falling)

I paid $2200 for mine and it's worth every penny. Honestly, I wouldn't use up the funds on the Witch King. It's a nice piece but maybe one of the most overrated pieces of the entire line. I bought it for like $1000 and sold it two weeks later. It just wasn't worth the money. I also own the Cave Troll and it's up there for me personally I'd say my #3 favorite piece. I got lucky and got mine from a pawn shop for $300.

I literally watched the Daddy Rog sell out on Sideshow's site, thinking that I'd never pay $300 for a collectible. Oh, have times changed. :lol Anyways, I'd never own this piece. I think it's overrated for its going rate. I own the Baby Rog and have to say that, even though it's small, the sculpt is very nice. I like it's originality.

RWoS IMO is the grail piece to own. Iconic LOTR.

I so remember the days of the $300 Balrog having a hard time selling out... and when the WiKi Trueform statue and bust came out at the same time, I was like, "overkill"! Oh, little did I know...

Orthanc was love at first sight, though. The first environment ever, based on one of the most iconic Alan Lee designs, and impossible to resist at $95.

Dang Josh, that is some big money. I understand though, if something is your grail you just have to pay the piper sometimes.

Having already owned it, at this point, I wouldn't pay more then $600.

I for one, prefer Wiki Trueform over the Balrog and the Cave Troll. Truely a classic pose taken directly from a scene from the film. It really captured the moment of the flowing robe and thrust of the morgul blade.

I sold my Balrog at peak price to a sucker... I mean collector years ago. :lol

Damn Josh, do you have rent or a mortage? LOL. You buy just about everything SS put's out and paid $2,200 for the daddy rog? Are you just independently wealthy?

$600 is about right. Certainly wouldn't pay anything near today's prices...when I can pay down my mortgage instead.

Indeed, both of the other members of the unholy trio are amazing. I could have gotten a Balrog a while back for around $1800, but I wanted the WK and CT first.

I would say retail. I'm not much into spending a ridiculous amount on a statue. I know they are going for like $2,000, but that's too rich for my blood. And I mean literally, I can't even sell that much blood, I've tried. When I do, I turn this color :monkey4

That was the case. It was outside of owning all 9 members of the Fellowship the Original Rog was the piece I had to own. The moment I saw the Rog on film I had to have that piece.

:lol I was able to get it through saving let's put it that way. I do buy a lot of SS stuff.

That's how I feel about the Witch King. I just wouldn't buy it again for much over retail. It's just a hugely overrated piece. It's nice but nothing more than that. I was honestly let down by it when I got it then compared it to the CT, Balrog, RWOS, and even the Morgul Lord Statue.

Totally disagree with you there. I paid $860 plus S/H for mine about a year ago (#33, never displayed before I received it), when they were still going for around $950-1100. This is the one statue where I was prepared to pay its full-blown "collector's price". Without thought as to its secondary market value (and what I paid for it ), I think it is apart from RWoS and Daddy Rog the coolest statue of the line (the only SSW statue I've never seen in person is Cave Troll).

The Morgul Lord statue?? Please, the paint job on that one is one of the most disappointing of any of the statues!

Beren

Well, we agree to disagree then because the WK isn't worth the price it's going for IMO. It's not a bad piece but just not worth the asking price. I don't miss it and honestly wouldnt buy it again unless I could get a good deal on it. I believe the CT, Balrog, RWOS, and ML are all better. All three are much better IMO but then again that's my opinion.
