:lol

I think the hot water in this case. I dunno I'd worry about drying out the rubber with a hairdryer. Maybe I'm wrong...

As in heat it with hairdryer rather than drop the whole head into a cup of hot water. :)
Just wondering which is better and avoids any damage.

I used a hair dryer on mine and elastic band same as you have it in that picture. Worked fine. I just went back and forth slowly at fairly close range for a few minutes then left it for 30 minutes or so then went back and did it again And left the band on for a hour or so. All though i didnt behead it i just span the head around so the dreads were hanging over his chest!

Cool! I will go to that forthwith! :)

If it's your first time doing this I would suggest hot water to produce faster and more satisfying results.

1. If the black rubber band you're using is too tight around the dreads it might risk leaving marks on the dreads after you dip them in the hot water. I would suggest wrapping the head with a thin cloth and THEN tying it with the band as EndIessRain once suggested to me.

2. Dip it in a bowl of boiling hot water for 20-25 seconds then take it out and instantly dip it in a bowl of ICE cold water.

3. Gently dry the dreadlocks with cloth and leave it to dry in a cold environment and you're done! If you're not satisfied with the results you can rinse and repeat.

NOTE : I've only done this mod 3 times with hot water only because the hair-drying method is VERY long and very cumbersome. Taylerdurdem a.k.a Alejandro the genius advised that doing the hot water mod too often will risk damaging the dreads and wearing out the gold ring paint on it (thus resulting in Alejandro repainting them with acryllic paint which is what I plan to do someday too). Basically he does the hair-drying method now to maintain the shape he wants because eventually although SLOWLY they will return to their natural state (not super puffy but they will flush out a little). But he says that it seriously requires ALOT of patience and detail. Basically once you've done the hot water mod and you're satisfied with the way it is, leave it as that and when you have the time you should devote some time like once a month to use the hair-dryer and maintain the shape that you want. It's definitely the safer way ;) Hope that helps!
