Re: The Dark Knight New Costume PHOTO Thread.

That's the way to do it mate! Patience is a virtue.

Looks splendid. The final touch to a great figure.

Re: The Dark Knight New Costume PHOTO Thread.

While posing the Batman figure for more pictures, the left hip broke off.

BrokenHip.jpg

As shown in the bottom picture, the joint is apparently hollow, usually indicating a casting flaw. I tried placing a regular True Type body in the Bat Suit, but it's a bit too large, stretching the rubber too much. Hopefully Hot Toys will respond to my e-mail, it seems their ability to help can be a bit hit or miss at times.

Any one have any tips on taking apart a True Type body? I'm thinking of replacing the broken hip joint with one from a TT, but unscrewing the leg halves won't seperate them. Are the limbs glued together as well?

Bobby, if you have a spare TT body, there is a way to do a swap. The pelvis & thighs are glued tight, so unscrewing won't be able to take them apart. The hip ball joint is not glued, but with where yours broke, opening the hip balljoints won't do you any good. Easiest way to repair is to open up the pelvis, but it is risky as it needs a lot of prying due to the glue. However, the knee joints can be removed if you pull it real hard. As you can see in the pics, both the top & bottom of the knee is just a super peg (similar to wrist ball joint, but a lot bigger and tighter) that holds the upper & lower leg together. However, take a note that on my TDK body, the knee-to-lower leg peg is sooo tight its non-removable. But the thigh-to-knee peg is. Thats how I saved my TDK broken leg by swapping the knee & lower leg, then sand down the TT lower leg to the same shape as TDK's skinny version. All these parts are a direct swap with identical connections.

So in your case, if you never hear back from HT, and has a spare TT body you can use, you can swap in the "pelvis + hip joint + thighs" assembly, since both the tummy can be easily taken apart by taking out the screws, and the knees can be taken out where it connects the thigh. Just that the colors won't be all black, but since its in the suit all the time, its no big deal. There is a spring on the top pelvis that can be tough to get in place onto the inner tummy section. A small screwdriver and a little patience can help you pry that thing a little to sit back in place. Do keep in mind that the plastic HT used is not very strong. Too much stress can break stuff. So be cautious on where you grab, pull or pry during the operation, to minimize stress.

So a bit of a surgery, but its doable. Hope that helps.

Re: The Dark Knight New Costume PHOTO Thread.

Does anyone know where to get stands like the Dark Knigh/Joker/Two-Face ones?? The type that goes under the thighs instead of around the waist. I really want them for the rest of my figures.

MPCHI,

You reply is extremely informative, and I thank you for taking the time to write such a useful post. I'll give your suggestions a try, I purchased a TT body specifically for repair purposes, as I prefer to rely on my skills than a replacement from Hot Toys.

I'm curious to know....my Dark Knight body was a little slick when I first removed the rubber Batsuit. Do you suppose Hot Toys applied a lubtricant of some sort to aid in application of the Batsuit during assembly?

Again thank you for your help!

Re: The Dark Knight New Costume PHOTO Thread.

I ordered mine last night. It should get here in the next few days!!! I can't wait to see him!!! I'm planning on buying one figure every month to complete the set!!

Oooooh the excitement!!! :D

Bri:rolleyes:

Re: The Dark Knight New Costume PHOTO Thread.

Ok guys, with MPCHI's advice, I used a pair of True Type hip and thighs, and transplanted them on to the Dark Knight torso and lower legs:

BatRepair1.jpg

I had some difficulty getting the abdomen tension spring in place....that required using 2 flat head screwdrivers as a makeshift pry bar to fit in place.

I also use this opportunity to shave the back and underside of the buttocks....this allows the legs to be brought back about 10 degrees from neutral, like a normal human being can.

I then slipped the repaired body into the Batsuit. With the cuts to the neck area and buttocks, my Dark Knight figure can now get into this, more life-like pose:

Sorry for providing such a rushed picture, I'm just giddy with joy that my Batman figure can be played with once again :D

Thanks again to MPCHI for his help!!!!

UPDATE-Hot Toys just responded to my e-mail and said they would repair the body if I sent it to Hong Kong. I sent them a picture of the repairs effected already and asked for replacement True Type hip and thighs instead, so I use the spare body for future projects.

WOW =D your repair skills are indeed something to marvel at. That Batman looks good as new! At the shaving down of those parts really does add a certain sleekness to the figure. Well done =) I think it even looks a lot better compared to the figure go got out of the box! And yes, BIG props to MPCHI for putting up that extremely informative response to the problem!

Re: The Dark Knight New Costume PHOTO Thread.

Man you really know what you are doing! Sorry about the break but congrats on the repair!

Re: The Dark Knight New Costume PHOTO Thread.

After seeing everyone's cool HT TDK pix here, I definitely want to get one. It's already January and everyone got theirs last October (I forgot to preorder so my dealer never notified me of the arrival.)

Atleast I have the HT original costume version, does anyone here know how to safely detach the cape? In case I want to wash or replace it. Thanx!

Re: The Dark Knight New Costume PHOTO Thread.

man they are cool, though tbh im rally happy with mine un-sanded down etc, yeah i wouldent mind a takara cape but the figure looks amazing just as it is.

Re: The Dark Knight New Costume PHOTO Thread.

Does anyone know where to buy more stands like TDK comes with? II really want the kind that goes under the thighs for the rest of my figures... I just need the metal parts

Not the Hot Toys ones anyways. Perhaps some other company makes ones that are similar in design, but I don't about them if they do. Right now I think the only ones like it are the Dark Knight ones.

I think all future HT figures will have these. The ALIEN figures might, pretty sure PREDATOR does.

Re: The Dark Knight New Costume PHOTO Thread.

MINIATURE-ART, is it just the way the new legs look of the joints to the hip, or is it more sturdier? The replacement legs/joints look more robust than the stock body or is it just the shot you have taken stripped down?...

Ah, nevermind, MINIATURE-ART. I now see the same part that broke from the stock body on the replacement legs. I don't own any sort of replacement bodies to see. I see it hidden in the shadows.

Snake can you post pics if your figure again from the side, I just want to see your mod(s) :)
