Desperate times call for desperate measures and Ray Drecker's situation couldn't be much tougher. The former high school sports legend turned middle-aged high school basketball coach is divorced and struggling to provide for his kids when his already run-down house catches fire. Looking to take on a second job, Ray decides to exploit his best asset in a last-ditch attempt to change his fortunes.

Basically Thomas Jane stars as a dude with a big ^^^^, who turns to man-whoring to make some extra cash. I watched the first episode tonight and thought it was really good. Also stars Anne Heche and Jane Adams. Seems like another quality show from HBO.

HBO puts out some great TV shows.

But I always wait till they come out on DVD as I don't want to pay even more than the $150 cable/internet/HD/phone bill I'm already paying now.

I dunno...that first episode didn't do anything for me......maybe the next ones are more interesting! More FAWKING!:naughty

I'm curious, how much is he charging for his services? Not that I'd ever pay. :lol

Pretty good show. HBO and Showtime are really turning out good shows. It's all I watch anymore.

Same here, the rest of the week I just watch Blu-Rays. Both channels do have great show though and even though there are more on Sho that I watch I have to give HBO the slight edge due to True Blood and Entourage.

HBO
True Blood
Entourage
Hung
Flight of the Conchords

Showtime
United States of Tara
Dexter
Californication
Weeds
Nurse Jackie

I enjoyed the show... but nothing about it really grabbed me. But for an intro to the series I think it sets the show up to be interesting. So while I'm not enamored, I'll be tuning into see how it develops.

I haven't even heard of the show until this thread--but I have to wonder, how successful is a show going to be when it's entirely constructed on how big a guy's ^^^^ is?

To be fair I think that's just the hook. He's also a teacher and coach for a local high school, has money and family troubles as well as some issues. So my guess is they will work a lot of different angles about how his choices will impact different areas of his life.

I could see it being a fairly interesting show, but it could also get old fast. However, HBO usually puts a lot of energy into their original series so I'm confident it will be good.

I enjoyed the first episode... and the phallic imagery worked into the episode subliminally was hilarious.

It's more a comment on our current economic times as he lives in Detroit and he feels like, in his own words, he's "backed up at the Alamo."

I thought it was clever! People always complain that the opening shows of anything are "boring". I don't know what people expect from an episode that has to set up the entire mythos of a show!

It would be like if you loved the olympic ski jump competition but you turned it off because you found the ramp portion to be boring. Without the set up THERE IS NO JUMP!

Well said guys.

I like Thomas Jane and it's good to see him take on a comedic role. There is lots of potential for this show being that he has so much going on in his life, what with his kids, ex-wife, house burning down and just generally feeling desperate for a life change. I think his man-whoring will give us some funny adventures while he figures out how to fit the pieces of his life together and make them work.

What I like is that the dude is probably like 40 years old right now. He spent 20 years being GREAT. Everyone praised him and worshiped him. Then he spent 20 years believing he was great because of the success of the first 20 years. Only now is he realizing he has been a loser for the last 20 years.

Its like thinking you won a race only to find out you are actually a lap behind.

It's like his wife said, before he was all those great things and he was hung, now he's just hung. :lol
