Opened my first tasty brew. Today has been a sad one. I think my baby (Maggie) pulled a muscle. She has been shaking and in pain all day and it makes me sad. :monkey2

Got any aspirin (not tylenol or advil)? Give her one, it won't hurt her a bit and she'll feel better. Just give her alittle food with it.

Back on ze beer tonight, its been awhile.

damn good beer.

I noticed that one of my dogs is starting to show his age. He's only 6, but now he gets sore muscles after chasing the ball. This dog will chase the ball for hours, literally, no lie, and never stops. But now I notice that when he is done, and relaxing on the couch, when he jumps down he sometimes whelps and I can tell from the way he walks that he has sore muscles. It goes away in a day or two, but he does it again when he runs after the ball the next trip to the park.

I wish dogs knew to stretch before running. :lol

Keith, were you running her, or did she just move awkwardly and pull something that way?

Mesa, they over tax their joints, that's what my vet told me. My dog used to be the same way but he did damage to his one front leg so he doesn't run as much because he gets too sore. Aspirin is your friend in that case. That's what my vet told me to give him when he's sore. Baby aspirin unless he's a big dog.

I think she might have slipped on the ice. Her breed is known for jumping and being energetic and crazy. So she enjoyed jumping over the huge snow banks outside. I think she might have clipped one last night and pulled something.

I don't have asprin. I did call my vet and they said that would only help if it was arthritis. But that I could still try it. My mom is bringing me baby asprin tomorrow. Other than that she is eating drinking and doing her business as usual. She is just whimpering and I can tell she is in a lot of pain. I feel horrible. This little one has always been there for me when I was sad or feeling bad and I just want to help her.

hmmm... I wish he'd slow it down. He's a smaller Boston Terrier and one of the fastest dogs at the park. He likes to get the ball and give it to EVERY OTHER person at the park for them to throw and him to chase it and return it. When that person gets sick of my dog keep coming back with the ball, he'll go drop the ball at someone elses feet. It's actually very funny and very cute. But he NEVER stops. Eventually I have to take the ball and tell him to sit so he stops breathing so hard and let him rest for a few minutes before giving him the ball back. I should upload some videos I took on my iphone.

But what your vet tells me makes me worry. Because if overtaxing you joints can happen, he's definitely a candidate. However, whenever I take him to the vet, the vet alwasy comments about how healthy his heart(rate) is because it's so low because he's in such good shape.

Hope all goes well. I hate it when one of my pups hurt themselves. Dogs are very tough creatures too, so you know if their wimpering, it's got to hurt. If you suspect just a pulled muscle, I'd give it a couple days before taking her in, it will probably get better on its own. I've seen larger dogs that are chasing just pull a muscle while runnign and then favoring their leg. The owners usually say that it's happened before.

I think aspirin is a good idea. Even if not arthritis, it's still a good muscle relaxer and pain reliever. But I would google "Aspiring and Pet Safety" just to make sure, because I thought I read something about some medications not being recommended for dogs.

Thanks! I try to take better care of her than I do myself. She's my little girl and it kills me seeing her in pain. And like you said dogs are tough and than don't whimper unless they are REALLY hurt. So that's what makes me sad the most. I know she hurts.
