I just say, "you only live once". If it wont put you in debt, then i say go for the car you want. I'm 23, still living at home until I graduate; I will have a 30K payed off early next year, I dont collect the way I used to cause I quite a descent job that was giving me $ to focus on school, but I would say, for a student with a nice car who pays for everything except food and shelter, I do allright, and I stay out of debt. It helps that I dont like to drink all that much too.

My only vice is collecting. Just do what makes you happy as long as it wont end up making you miserable 3 or 4 years down the road when you still have big car payments. I will be psyched when my car is payed off :yess:, and even when I am finished with school, even though I would love a Shelby, the high car payments do suck and you will realize it after a couple of years. I wont want another car for a long time as long as mine holds up. Btw- I say dont go with a Pontiac, I had one, and once one thing breaks, everything else falls in line, and it never stops. I will never get another Pontiac. The car was 5yrs old at the time. My Mach1 is 6yrs old now, and she has treated me well *knock on wood* :slap.

But I agree with the others, go with a used; If you have a Carmax near you, go with them, they were great with my car and I had it transferred to me as well. You can find the car you want with like 1-2k miles on it to, so you get it at a great price considering its almost brand new.

I loved my Pontiac Sunbird. Was the first car I ever bought and I had it for 13 years. My nephew has it now. I sold it to him when I got my PT. I never had any major problems with it, just usual things like brakes and belts. My parents always owned Pontiacs until my mother wanted another station wagon and at the time only Ford made one. She's had it now for 11 years and hasn't had any trouble with it at all. All our cars have been bought new.

^^^:goodpost::goodpost: You guys are going to laugh, but the vehicle I loved the most was my '93 Ford Ranger pickup truck in Teal Green. I owned that sucker for about 6 years and the only thing I had to fix on it was the starter. Everything else...flawless. I just wish I could say the same about the other 3 Fords I've owned.

Someone help me out, here. I see threads all of the time about people who don't think they can't afford to collect AND take care of the domestic responsibilities at the same time. And, invariably, these threads are always about "I guess I have to quit collecting".

Why doesn't anybody ever take a "I-better-get-a-better-(or second)-job" approach?

Worked for me. Every time I found my collecting to be more than my paycheck could handle, I just got a better paying job, and took a second one until a better-paying one came along.

Priorities, people, priorities. Here they are in order of importance:

1) Family
2) Collection
3) Self
4) Friends

1 and 2 are interchangeable depending on whether your family loves your collection or not. Family being #1 is completely dependant on the assumption that they love your collection so much that they will buy anything you want that you can not afford yourself.:D

But seriously...just make more money. This attitude has actually helped me a great deal more than just with my collection.

Yeah, you lazy ____s! Cause we all know how simple it is to find better paying jobs and also how easy it is to work two jobs :rolleyes2

You can always make more money, but you have a finite amount of time. Time is your most precious commodity.

That is why I disagree with the 'get a second job' argument.

Also, I can't see putting my collection as the second most important thing in my life! :google

When funds get tight, don't say either "I'm done collecting" or "Guess I have to get a second job." Just slow down with the purchases or put the hobby on a temporary hold... well at least the buying part. Even when I can't afford anything new I still play with what I have. That's part of what makes action figures superior to statues imo. Open up the boxes and swap out hands/accessories. Put the figures in new poses. Move them around the room.

And come to the forums and live vicariously through other peoples collections!!! :)

Did I miss something? Is it difficult to find better-paying jobs or get second ones?

This is really cute. But really doesn't do anything to lend support to the point.
