If Sideshow ends the line, could Hot Toys pick it up?

Not at all IMO, I'd much rather have the entire main cast in the 3 year time frame instead of Captain Antilles or w/e.

The reason I haven't bought any of them was because they didn't really do any cool characters right away. Bespin Han? Why not Yoda?

And what if this year people get sick of Greedo and Panda Baba and they end the line without droids or chewie, does a dozen faceless aliens with 10 seconds screen time make up for whats missing?

IF Hot Toys picks up Indy, I will be first in line with the pre-order. But I am 99% sure they would only produce the one Indy figure, which may be a generalized amalgam of all the Indy movies. Kinda how they did Blade. I could see them maybe doing one other figure, whether it would be Mola Ram (the most likely visually dynamic villain), or the KOTCS Old Indy (since it's a considerable change in the portrait), but that's it. We all know Hot Toys doesn't go too deep into a line and if anything only produces variations of the same character or two.

And I also think HT wouldn't touch this for another couple of years, perhaps if they make another Indy movie. Otherwise I don't think anyone (except LEGO) will be touching this license for a while. As much as we here on this board love the franchise, there simply isn't enough fans out there to support Indy action figures.

The INDY brand and license is fine. It's not our fault that Hasbro suffers from Star Wars Syndrome and got uber-greedy. You have to market your supply to the demand. They ignored that by believing that flooding the market with junk would create the demand. Well, only diehard Star Wars collectors are that mindless and without discretion. And the other licensees had their own sets of issues...

If Hasbro had only packed the waves of figures better and released them in sane quantities (15 gazillion Mutt and Spalko figures is the height of dumb), they'd probably still be making stuff today.

If Gentle Giant was able to produce quality INDY items within a halfway decent timeframe, they'd still be in it too (the desk accessories were great, but they came out when it was already an afterthought).

If LucasArts didn't wet their pants over one of the most over-hyped games of all time (The Force Unleashed) they would have completed the next-gen INDY game instead of dumbing it down for Wii way after the fact.

Kotobukiya jumped their INDY shark by simply making a slate of items that no one had any interest in (because they looked dumb)

And, last but not least.... Sideshow fumbled things away for the most part by taking their sweet time, making some extremely baffling decisions, and putting their flagship INDY item (the ROTLA 12" figure) to market with tons of inexcusable issues. Sideshow's INDY license once had the most buzz, enthusiasm, and momentum around. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. And got a figure that was... less than expected. Thankfully, their PFs and 12" Henry Sr. are golden, though.

So, again I say... it's not the license. It's the licensees.

No, Indy has no legs left.

There was a Q&A with Diamond Select Toys, and they canceled their remaining Indy solicits due to lack of interest. Interest from fans is irrelevant, retailer interest is what matters, of which there is none. It doesn't help that nearly every single licensee put out sub-standard product, but that's water under the bridge at this point.

Sideshow sells direct to consumers, Hot Toys does not, neither does DST, neither does Gentle Giant (sort of), which is why Sideshow's Indy line has lasted longer than any other company's.

If Hot Toys made an Indy, trust me, there would be retailer interest.

That's all unfortunately true, IrishJedi. The licensees, for whatever reason, did not bring their "A" games to the Indy license, whether it be for actual quality of product of for market strategy. They probably thought that the consumers would be so hungry for anything Indy that they would take whatever they could get, kinda how things were with SW in 1995, and even when Phantom Menace came out. I remember the figures appearing before the movie came out and everyone was in a frenzy to buy absolutely anything and everything from the movie.

I just want to say that the Indiana Jones line isnt dead. Its Sideshow that killed it. I started collecting when version 1 of the Dark Knight suit came out. With a massive catalog of characters and companies to choose from only 1 out of 5 figures that I have is from Sideshow, thats the newly and only released Darth Vadar figure. I want a Indy figure...but I want the company to make him look as real as possible, to give him the right sized clothes and I want a healthy array of accessories. Which is the only company that can do that ? Hot Toys! What company made the other 4 out of 5 figures I have ? Hot Toys! Am I a Hot Toys fan boy? No! So why is it that out of all the companies that I can choose from do I choose Hot Toys ? Unsurpassed raw quality. Yes your paying more for the figure but your getting more than your moneys worth when you invest in it. I was so dissapointed then I looked at Sideshows catalog of Indy figures...they all look like dolls !!!! Proportions of clothing are awful, the head sculpt looks fantastic, like a genius gifted sculptor made the head. Then the paint job happens. When the paint is applied all the detail is lost, no dark or light skin tones, no texture to the face, no small details. 1 blob of light brown paint for the face and 1 blob of dark brown for the hair. Thats how I see the sideshow paint jobs.

Take a look at this. Its a repainted sideshow head. Just look at how doing a good job of the paint makes the figure look like !!!

Seriously sideshow, get your "cursing" act together if you wanna keep on selling any 12" figures or just stick to your PF statues.

I say stick to your PF statues but then after looking at this latest incarnation of Indy which looks like a freaking total PIG I say, sideshow just quit now:

Bring on the hate sideshow fanboys ! :lol:chew

Would I buy a HT Indy figure? Yes. Will HT ever pick up the license? IMO, no, unless they get on board if and when the next movie comes out. But with the way other companies are dropping Indy, I don't think they have any incentive to try and acquire the license from LFL.

I was thinking about this the other day as I boxed up my Sideshow Indy and listed him for a $15 loss. I'd been chomping at the bit for a great 1/6 Indy ever since I started collecting this scale and when Sideshow's first pics were revealed I felt confident that "this" would be the one.

But the plastic looking skin, loose body and unimpressive stature just left me cold. I displayed him for awhile, but a few months boxed him up and today sent him off to a new owner.

I did buy the PF and for now that is fulfilling my Indy needs, but if HT were to tackle this line I'd be back in a heart beat. Will they... probably not for at least a few years. But I have a feeling it may eventually happen.

A SS/HT collaboration on Indy possible?

Seeing as Sideshow helped Hot Toys out with their T2 line, and the fact that this is HT's 10 year anniversary, they have said they are rolling out some special surprises this year in their MMS line.

They have said they are making figures from classic films. Howard Chan ssaid recently that they will announce the next DX by the end of May, and that it will make everyone happy, seeing as the DX03('Bad' Michael Jackson) was a shock to fans, and could have been a simple MMS, were it not for the PERS system. Does anyone else think it's possible that HT are borrowing the Indy licence for perhaps one figure like a DX or standard MMS figure?

It's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that this might happen, seeing as SS's line is 'on hold', and they seem to be focusing their attention on PF's and dioramas. This is really just a pipe dream, but an educated one at that.

What do you guys think?

Re: A SS/HT collaboration on Indy possible?

:lol Nam!

But Johnny, Sideshow has said the reverse actually. That they may get Hot Toys's help for TOD Indy:

Q: Now that Sideshow are branching out into Temple Of Doom territory, can we expect to see a 1/6th TOD Indy soon? When things like PF’s and dioramas are announced, I always look for the 1/6th announcement. Since you have collaborated with Hot Toys with your armored figures, you could easily handle the visible articulation issue with the rope-bridge version by using one of their muscle bodies.

A: You’ll see a pause in the Indiana Jones 12-inch line after Henry Jones. Our development team is in the midst of evaluating TOD characters (including Indy) for production, including considerations like collaboration with Hot Toys for muscle bodies. It may take us some time to fully answer this question, but it is an active discussion.

In the meantime, we have some truly wonderful TOD Premium Format figures in development, and we’re eager to show you more. Stay tuned!

Re: A SS/HT collaboration on Indy possible?

:lol :wave Glad to finally meet the person behind that question! You DO realize the hailstorm unleashed by that Q&A, don't you? Not only did it mention the possibility of the HT/SSC collaboration, but it's when they first announced the notorious "pause" to the Indy line!

It's been a while since they answered that question. But I think a Hot Toys Indy is still just a pipe dream. :(

OTOH, the customs of TOD Indy on Wolvie's body have been phenomenal. Maybe the time is getting closer to when Sideshow will pay for the rights to use the HT body for their TOD Indy.
