No. They redesigned the packaging and materials so the older models sold out before the new models were available in stock. They seem to have started with only one color in some places and now have 3 - Birch, White and Black-Brown. The old Beech is gone.
I just picked up a new one so I can tell you that now that instead of color-complimentary plastics, all the feet for all models are the same grey and the inserts that cover up the hole are clear. I'll be measuring the glass tomorrow with digital calipers to see if there's any difference there. IKEA have traditionally cost-reduced by making things thinner. The new models are now $20 less expensive here in Canada, so whatever they've done, their costs must be lower.
