You know,
I really don't care if they make remakes of movies I don't care about, or even if they make movies about crappy old TV shows...
but this just pisses me off!!!

Jaden Smith is the Next Karate Kid
Source: Variety November 11, 2008

Columbia Pictures has refashioned its new version of the 1984 hit The Karate Kid as a star vehicle for Jaden Smith, reports Variety.

The film will be produced by Jerry Weintraub (who launched the original franchise) and Overbrook Entertainment's James Lassiter, Jaden's father Will Smith and Ken Stovitz.

The script is being written by Chris Murphy, and the film will shoot next year in Beijing and other cities. While the new film will be set in that exotic locale, it will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor.

The younger Smith, who next stars in The Day the Earth Stood Still, is a martial arts practitioner.

Seriously!!
Somebody should stop this... Hollywood has to STOP NOW!!
for starters, how can it be Karate Kid if it's in China?? hello???!!!
Unless they called him Kung Fu Kid...then I'll be happy 'cos I know it has nothing to do with Karate Kid...
Besides, having a "new" Mr. Miyagi is an outrage... it's like having a new Yoda, it CAN'T be done!! There was only one and will ever be ONE Mr. Miyagi

I personally think a remake of this is a bad idea, especially with Jaden Smith. If he waits till he is 16 or 17, then maybe, but not now with a ROMPER ROOM version of one of my favorite movies.

UPDATED CAST:

Daniel - Jaden Smith
Johnny - Haley Joel Osmet
Ali - Dakota Fanning
Mr. Miyagi - George Takei
John Kreese - Samuel L. Jackson

Yeah I agree completely. Until they hit about 13, kids are just mimicking movements not really applying techniques.
