Well, it doesn't sound like they are remaking it 100% the same but with new actors they are just using the "style" of it. Doesn't sound like that big a deal.. its just going to be a generic karate movie.

I wonder if Will Smith's son had a tuff time at the auditions?

:lol :lol :lol

This will suck and is just another example of Hollywood cashing in since they are too lazy to make anything original. But, on the plus side the original is still intact and will probably now seem even more awesome by comparison :lecture

Crap...
this just keeps getting worse...

Jackie Chan Joins The Karate Kid Remake
Source: Variety January 14, 2009

Jackie Chan is in final negotiations to join the Columbia Pictures remake of The Karate Kid.

Harald Zwart will direct the film, which has been revamped as a starring vehicle for Jaden Smith.

Set in an exotic Asian locale, the new film will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth (Smith) learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor (Chan).

Chris Murphy wrote the screenplay. The film will shoot early this summer in Beijing.

I've never been a big fan of Jackie Chan... but this is just plain ridiculous...
besides... he played a mentor for a kid in Forbidden Kingdom already...

In regards to overall casting news, Jackie Chan isn't the worst news. I wouldn't hate it if he were in it.

I love Jackie Chan but I won't watch this picture. They replayed all 4 Karate Kid movies in a row last weekend on TV and when I told my mother about the remake, she said, "I ain't watching that ^^^^!" :lol

Jayden Smith say's No Crane Kick, heres the article:

"No Crane Kick for Jaden Smith in 'Karate Kid' Remake
In I want to destroy the 80's news it seems that lovely little child star Jaden Smith thinks he doesn't need to do the Crane Kick in the remake of The Karate Kid. According Joblo, Jaden would like to base the Karate Kid's moves on a video game. Wait just in case you didn't catch that… A ^^^^^KING video game.

Luckily, we have someone on the inside who is willing to fight for us: it's Jaden's pop Will. We got Will talking on the KARATE KID remake the other day and he said he's "begging" Jaden to include the crane kick in KARATE KID even though Jaden wants no part of it."

Well I actually like that idea, that way it WON'T be related to Karate Kid at all!!
I mean, first it's an 9 y.o. it takes place in CHINA, and JACKIE CHAN is the mentor...
no Crane Kick either! Perfect!!!
Now just call it The Bullied Kid in China and we're good to go!!
:D

I'm gonna assume that Will Smith has creative control over the movie and not the producer or director since no one seems to be able to tell the star (a kid) what he can and can't do on the film. And it looks like Will has no control over his son either.

I wouldn't watch this film if someone gave me a free ticket or paid me.

i would rather stick my $##@ in an ant hill than watch this garbage.

who the frak are you kid, telling anyone what you are and aren't going to do?
