What bothers me about this is not the remake itself, like others have said, the original still exists, I think it's a laughable concept but whatever.

What bothers me is what it says about Hollywood.

Is the world becoming so dull and unimaginative that no one can conceive of fresh movie ideas? I'm occassionally for remakes like instances where it's interesting to see a story told with the newer technologies and such, like King Kong, the 1933 film will always be a classic, but it's nice to see the story told in a more photo-realistic manner like the 2005 film, plus it didn't try to 100% mirror the original and created it's own story around the base concept. However, movies like Rob Zombie's Halloween and this Karate Kid just make no sense to me. There's nothing to really gain from remaking them, so it's like why?

I wish Hollywood would put more effort into coming up with new stories and fresh ideas. I'd say the last really refreshing things I saw come out of Hollywood were Pirates of the Caribbean and the Matrix.

There's room for sequels and new adaptations, like Nolan's take on Batman or new Superman's etc., but it'd be nice to see fresh ideas too, the prequel/sequel/remake era we're falling deeper and deeper into is almost at a disgusting point. There are less and less movies I could actually care about seeing every year.

I completely agree MaulFan, as you said, remakes are nice to have every now and then, but it is indeed sad that there's no new stories on the big screen...
remakes, re-imaginings, prequels, sequels, tv shows, comic books...jeez...
and where are all the writers that went on strike last year??...
Besides, how can you top the chemistry between Macchio and Morita?
It can't be done...
I think they just want to cash-in on the Kung Fu Panda/China culture hype...

yeah this sucks but like I just said in another thread we still have the originals. Movies suck at the minute , no heart or imagination goes into them and all the makers want is cash so they remake or bring back popular movie franchises !.

I mean it's only a matter of time before we see a remake of classics like Alien, The Terminator etc. Hell I wouldn't be suprised if they announce a remake of the classic Star Wars Trilogy in the next severall years with all new actors and an ass load of CG.

And the third one, while the story line is weak, I liked the tension between Miyagi and Daniel... and how things turn out great for them as master and student, as well as friends!
