this movie really should be called Kungfu Kid because jackie chan teaches Kung-fu...not Karate...there is a big difference plus also so there is no relation to the original 80's classic Karate Kid

This has been mentioned before. I wonder if the production people even noticed the obvious error.

I mentioned a few posts back that I saw a "making of" show on like HBO or some such channel. They are not blind to the title vs the subject. The "Karate Kid" in the title refers to the disparaging name that the Kung-Fu gang gives the kid in the movie. They make fun of him by calling him "The Karate Kid".

Still, call the movie something else and that joke still could work.

No excuse, either way you cut it..da movie suck.

I agree with this guy but come on get a life money decides what gets the green light to be made and its an easy decsion for them to make.

The first film was popular so all the fans will see it one way or another to slag it off.

It has will smiths sprog in it so people will want to see if hes any good/bad.

It has jackie chan in,love ot hate him hes got skill and just natural curiosity will draw people in.

I have to admit I'm curious to see what they've done to it and will probably hate myself and want to pull out my eyeballs but its like a car crash you have to look at.

Jackie Chan seems relegated to awful kids movies these days... its a shame as he used to be so kick ass. But, I'm sure he's getting paid a hell of a lot more money for this crap so I can't fault him :monkey1

No kidding, but he is getting older so he might just be trying to take it easy and collect the paychecks they keep throwing his way. I can't blame, but I certainly don't have to support him by seeing the movies.

He's still making action movies in China though.

Karate Kid blasts past expectations w/ $18.8M FRI opening. Wknd could soar to around $55M!

Hmmm. I took my niece and nephew to see this today. I wanted to watch A-Team, but whatever. It wasn't bad. It's actually surprisingly low-key and not as upbeat as the original Karate Kid, which isn't a bad thing. Smith/Dre didn't piss me off as much as I thought he would. Actually, the way he gets his a$$ beat near the beginning is quite graphic and you kinda feel for the kid. Chan (initially the sole reason I decided to watch this) is no Pat Morita in regards to acting ability, but he looks grim and wise and not a lot like previous Jackie Chan characters, which is a welcome change. At first I thought the relationship between Dre and Mr. Han was a bit cold and detached compared to Daniel's rapport with Mr. Miyagi, but these are different times, not to mention different place altogether, what with Dre being out of his comfort zone in China. That's one aspect I actually like more than the original (blasphemy, I know): the feeling of isolation. Daniel never had to go through that living in the Valley.

There's a lot to like in this movie, and now that I've seen it, the last few pages of this thread hating on it (which I will admit to participating in earlier on) seems a bit unfair.

It doesn't live up to the original Karate Kid, which I still remember watching when I was a little kid, but the remake doesn't make a mockery of my memories either, so that's something (except for it being named 'Karate Kid', but I'll blame that on marketing) worth praising. The fight scenes are done well too. Not the worst movie I've seen this summer season.

I would have much prefered this taking place in East L.A and the kid is a little mouthy ghetto ____ that gets saved from beat downs by his friends/gang by some old Japanese dude that eventually teaches him how to speak proper English/proper haircut/proper dress then Karate but, half way through training the kid gets merk'ed by his old gang and Japanese dude takes revenge.Karate Kid meets Gran Torino meets Boyz in tha Hood.

yes? no?. :lol

Saw the movie yesterday with my 11 year old son. I was expecting a so so movie and what I saw was pure entertainment. People where laughing, crying, and cheering. Good movie, I hope it gets the credit it deserves.
