I was right it made around 50mil. The sheep sure did flock. People will see anything, and the remakes will continue to be made cause thats what people go and see. Such a shame. Whoever seen this movie I'm unfriending on my facebook page.
Saw the movie yesterday with my 11 year old son. I was expecting a so so movie and what I saw was pure entertainment. People where laughing, crying, and cheering. Good movie, I hope it gets the credit it deserves.

And the stubborn will miss out on a lot...but keep fighting the good fight I guess. Hope ya win something.
Apparently this movie is getting good word of mouth. Even CNN who I would expect to bash this movie gave it a decent write up.

Hmmm. Will Smith and Opera...No one will say anything bad about them. I hear Jayden Smith will probably get the Oscar for his role.
So a bunch of old farts are "pissed" about a remake of their beloved classic from when THEY were kids... guess what the movie is not for you, old farts, but for YOUR KIDS! My boys loved it btw. I didn't, but I wasn't a fan of the orginal Karate Kid either.
I dont think people are pissed off that they remade the movie. its the other stuff like Karate Kid but he is actually the Kung Fu Kid (regardless of karate kid supposed to be the name the kids call him as a joke). And your right, it is a movie for kids.
Congrats on giving them your money.
Are you angry because they're perpetuating a stereotype? Because we all know how racially sensitive Hollywood can be.

It was a retro 80s weekend - saw both A-Team and Karate Kid. I never watched a single episode of A-Team, so I had no frame of reference for it, but liked for a non-stop action film with a really great cast. All 4 of them were incredibly watchable and interesting characters and really well performed.
Karate Kid was just as good, and almost better than the original in setting it in China. It opened it up to a whole range of deeper themes of alienation that really weren't present in the first one. Smith did a really good job too, I was a bit surprised at how nuanced his performance was. It was a bit too much of a love letter to an oppressive regime, but the characters and story were well done and engaging. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone, especially ones with kids in the 12-16 age range.
