Once again Eli has no clue what he is talking about. This montage alone makes Karate Kid awesome:

Not to mention the fact that Mr. Miyagi basically teaches Daniel karate by having him remodel his house. I can't fathom how anyone cannot like this movie. It is pure 80's awesomeness.

Karate Kid is definately (for me at least) an iconic and perfect film that should not be touched or remade. Unfortunately Hollywood being as it is they need to remake everything rather than come up with new concepts for a film.

I see your point but I can also see the desire to showcase the Chinese arts in a major vehicle. The general public (American audience anyway) has no concept whatsoever of the differences between karate and kung fu, in terms of origin, technique or philosophy. I get phone calls every week and the people on the other end ask "Is this the karate place?" despite the fact that my listing in the book clearly says 'kung fu'. I even have the parents of kids I teach refer to their kids karate class. I won't even get into the fact that most people don't know kung fu doesn't translate to any martial art reference with people.
I'm dreading the phone calls after its released, from people who want lessons for their kids.

if that is truly the case, then ALL the more reason for them to set the record straight. and what better way than a mainstream piece of entertainment that will be seen by millions of americans?

instead, they've now got a movie that is set in china, features a chinese martial arts star, and who teaches kung fu... but they're calling it "karate" kid. that's REALLY gonna confuse the already poorly-informed folk.

nah, to me the only reason they're doing this is due to greed. a cash-in of the most shameless kind. and i'm not f@#**king watching this crap.

I can see why people don't like the Karate Kid. It's a typical 80ies movie in many ways, and to one who didn't grow up with it, it could be pretty damn terrible.

Thankfully, I did grow up with it, so I get that sweet taste of nostalgia to make an awesome 80ies movie even better.

no one will believe an african american kid moving too china with his mom to get a job.
he can't even speak the language.it's not even that.moving from what looks like the inner city to china...just not realistic..

another movie will smith ruins..wild wild west..
people start writing scripts this crap is ruining the movie business..
hollywood has no fresh ideas.
what's next the last starfighter with lil wayne..
the original karate kid made good money.

I just watched the trailer it was pretty funny when Jackie chan was trying to catch the fly with the chopsticks but then just hit it with the fly swatter

Still a massive pass from me though.

mister Miyagi(Pat morita) would be turning in his grave(r.i.p) if he seen this dross. If they can't even make a trailor look good you know the film will be utter rubbish. I like jackie chan but hes not suitable for this type of film. Stick with slapstick & stunts jackie, thats what your best at.

Just confirms as if we need confirming that Hollywood is long since out of new original ideas and it seems nowadays every second film is a remake of some film made in the 80's.

The only saving grace for hollywood at the moment is comic to film adaptions such as iron man. I wish we could go back to the days of original fimmaking like the 70's and 1980's when there were such greats as taxi driver, back to the future, terminator, rambo, ghostbusters, Predator, trading places, beverly hills cop, robocop, aliens, the abyss and so many other great movies but hollywood has long since sold out great storylines and ideas in favour of what gets it the biggest amount of cash from marketing. I see with avatar and paranormal activity maybe things will change but wouldn't hold my breath. Paranormal was more of a small time fluke that made it big and avator is only because jim cameron is at the helm.
