When it comes to customs yes of course we just want a badass figure on our shelf but we are also collectors and in collecting the rarer something is the more special it is, so people can deny up and down but having something "limited" means something, and when you pay top dollar for this limited item whether you intend to sell it or not its nice to keep that limited aspect and price tag on it. I mean in a perfect world lets all have DX Blondies, hold hands and dance around a fire but let's be realistic, majority of us are big time collectors and that limited headsculpt and price tag that comes with it is highly appealing whether that is our initial purchasing or eventual selling reason.

"Rarity" means nothing to me personally and I have quite a few items that <100 have been made of. I've even been party to a small team of people who commissioned an item (a quartet if memory serves me correctly - it was over a decade ago), because it's the only way we were ever going to get it on our shelves, and I love all of these items because they take my memory back (and because I really enjoyed the movie/character, naturally), not because of some notion of rarity. I suspect I'm not the only one of my kind out there. I'd hope not, anyway. I'd find that profoundly depressing. TBH, I find the whole "Oh I want it because it's rare" thing rather crass and distasteful.

Oh, and a brief story about that commissioned item. It was decided to open it up for a general run, and I was more than happy for other people to be happy to have something special on their shelves. The more the merrier I always say. Plus, ironically, a few years later, mine was stolen, and I was able to replace it from someone who bought in on the run, so it had another pleasing side-effect. Had we been greedy/selfish, and limited the run to the few of us who commissioned it, it would have been impossible to replace.

What's wrong with someone wanting something, because it is rare?

Some people find themselves enjoying "The Hunt" just as much as owning the figure.

Why can't it be both?

I enjoy the entire process of collecting these custom pieces. From the selection process of the next figure, posting reference materials, learning tidbits about the movie, the arguments, the drama, the delays, the anxiousness, the ship date, and then finally the pictures that are posted.

Chasing down a rare item like my DX Wonka was a *****!! I even thought I had one in the bag on Ebay, before Bullet swooped in and outbid me (Very Heartbreaking), but in the end I paid premium for mine (At the time) and I get a sense of achievement every time I see it up on my shelf.

Having said that I do love to get my fellow freaks involved, but its not always feasible. The artist decides the run and people always get left out.
I have a commissioned figure(s) I wish I could get more people in on, but it would be impossible. Stay tuned ;)

P.S. I find it comical that you write, "Rarity means nothing to me" , and then go on about your rare items and commissions. Just admit it man you are a closet "Rare lover" LOL

You are misunderstanding me, as a "collector" of course I buy a figure with no notion of rarity and price tags but for the sole reason I love the character figure and movie, this is what separates a collector who enjoys the hobby from a collector who is just interested in a rare item, that being said, if that figure I love is also rare then that is an added bonus, its a great aspect of personal collections, you can call me "rather crass and distasteful" for enjoying that aspect but I'd think even though most won't it admit it that your feelings are in the minority, look at any hobby that is collected and there will always be limited items and rare items that are highly sought after, why because they are made better? No because owning something that is limited is appealing, now whether it's just the limited aspect that is appealing to you or cause you love the figure then feel free to say what you want but like I said first comes my want for the character and figure then of course if its rare its an added bonus.

For right or wrong, a lot of the "omg my XXX will be devalued" comes across as pure selfishness, which is never attractive.

Cool. :)

I don't understand this. It's an online purchase. I'm not trying to be unkind, but what's the achievement? Or are you talking about that "yes, finally managed to find one" sense, in which case I totally understand.

If you're commissioning something, then you should set the run size. At the very least you need to take ownership of the molds. You're the buyer, exercise your power as such. :)

I'm sorry if I upset you, I guess it's just not something I understand. :)

PS, I'm not calling you crass OR distaseful, please don't take it so, that's more about the people who seem to get very upset because a run size is increased or even *gasp* open. To me, all I think is "sweet, some more folks are going to get something they really enjoy". Sadly, half of the buyers these days are probably bloody flippers anyway. :(

Not at all. Just pointing out that I do own rare items, so it's not like I'm pining for a rare item of my own. :)

This.

I would love for someone to explain to me why they wouldn't want a run to be increased if they bought it at the original price.

Practically everyone who got the DX said they wouldn't care about the run increasing. It was Denny who said it couldn't be done because the original sculpt was no longer available (modified for hatted version).

If you recast the sculpt like 'Q' it distorts, and is never 100%.

I very much doubt those re-casts will ever affect the value of the original.

its not through Rainman its through a one man shop and its 4 figurines ( hint). even a small run would be impossible.

Hello guys,

Sorry that I didn't pop up more active and sorry for Hector.
I was busy for personal reason and I wanted to make sure things before I say something.

Now, it's all clear.

Odell sent me few messages recently and insisting that Hector was the supplier, I told him to give the evidence.

What I asked him was the photos of the recasted resin head.(Because we distinguish)

Q and Odell had no idea that we Modified the neck after getting the original sculpt from Trevor, the neck was a bit thin, so...we added more Volume to look more
naturally.

Meaning, the unpainted gift resin heads' neck is different from our resin heads'

PHotos given me from Odell today(3 photos) : We carefully checked and we believe that the recasted resin head is from our resin head not from unpainted head that Hector was given from Trevor.

I am sure about it and all things was made up.

I am so sorry Hector that I didn't communicate with you much for this, I was trying to avoid thinking about this issue because no matter what I like you very much and I still think you are one of my good friends in USA.

Cheer up and I will buy you a big drink.

thanks guys

Denny

Additionally, I wanted to make sure and clear this up. Because By setting up someone, he got hurt already and if no one is making this clear up, this would not go away.
Odell has to provide me with more photos that I asked for proof and this proves that the recasted head is from our resin head not from the Gift head.

I confirm it.

Denny

Poor Hector, I'll buy you a drink if I could. :slap

So Odell was talking out of his *** again? Typical...

Didn't even know this myself. I just examined my gifted head with the hatted version and yes, the back of the neck is different. Mainly the angle of the back of the neck when looking at it from the side.

Denny, thank you for clearly this up. Odell and Q are scumbags and anyone that doesn't see it are probably scum as well. Not naming names but you know who you are.

I took a look at that video that was posted a page or so back. This guy is a real nut job, I kept thinking escaped menal patient.

This situation is unbelievable… What ****ing losers that Odell & Q… Absolutely pathetic to make that **** up…
I believe Hector does need a drink after all that garbage...
