To be fair, that's exactly how chrome reacts and works? Metallic property is completely run by lighting. Chrome is more or less a mirror. The "shine" you see is the light source being reflected off of it. If there's not enough light, there's no chrome or white "shine" to reflect back to your eyes.
For example, you don't see his suit showing any silver or shine on his shoulders here in this scene because there's no light to reflect from. Compared to the Batmobile scene that has a very strong head light pointed right at him, showing it off the most. Lighting is very much how that "shine" is controlled on his suit.
I do think it can still be pushed just a bit but they're really not that far off.
