Its being said that she can only play one character, and she got away with that in Spider-Man but here its a lot more noticable.

Much low and highkey racism about her looks. Admittedly she does have a round face which scraped-back hair accentuates.

Unattractive feminist anger, how dare she. Not meek enough.

Ranting about polygamous societies, as if anyone posting there has been raised in one. Right.

You know, the Internet.
Hahaha yes, the internet indeed.

And as far as her looks she does have sort of a round face, but I think she is a beautiful girl and would be willing to bet that she is much better looking than the vast majority of people who are criticizing her appearance.

As far as racial stuff, nothing really to say there, for people who don’t like her for racial reasons I’m not going to bother.

But I can see her possibly being knocked for her acting range but there are some really good actors in this film that would put many in the industry to shame.

But whatever, I don’t want to make us stray to far from the figures …I would love to see figures of Chani and Feyd, I would order them immediately!

I would also really like to see the Baron made but I know that is a long, long-shot.

That's a huge difference between InArt and Hot Toys. For the most part, HT have figures tied into a film or shows release date. Relatively close, for the most part. In saying that, their releases are baffling sometimes, like Black Manta and no Aquaman recently.

InArt are working in the past, and have shown they are more than happy soliciting a figure years after the property's release date. Batman and now Paul.

It's a fundamental misstep in my opinion.

I don’t think they’re only necessarily working in the past. I think they’re making things that are simply good. The Batman (2022) is critically acclaimed. But why are you even including the Batman here…? Batman was announced 5 months after the film came out. That’s reasonable. If Batman indeed releases this month, it’d be a 18 month turnaround. Not bad at all. Hot Toys does the same thing too, releasing a figure almost 2 years after the film came out and those films for the most part, aren’t even critically acclaimed. For example, 19 month turnaround with their Gorr the God Butcher. How is the Batman ‘22 included in this fundamental misstep?

Yes, Dune 1 Paul should’ve been announced back in 2022, since it was part of the first teaser lineup picture when INART came into the scene and really should’ve been either the Gandalf or Pennywise slot. But unfortunately, they were in this long battle securing global licensing and only recently obtained Chalamet’s likeness rights. Should’ve been worked out beforehand perhaps, but it is what it is. Growing pains, I say.

Imo.

Had to go back and check the dates on when they showed off this initial lineup reveal pic, and it’s funny as you were one of the first ones to see that.

BUT. Are you not afraid that a layer of paint is going to affect the rolling eyes component? With fixed eyes that'd be fine. I'd be really worried about the eyes getting stuck in place or something. Or moving them and then white ends up showing.
If the InArt figure has rolling eyes they would need to be removed for painting then replaced when dry. It’s not that important to me honestly. Just was putting it out there. As stated AugToys Paul is “supposed” to released next month. I’ll definitely put a thin layer of blue wash on his eyes. I’ve got a lot of headsculpts so I’ll work on a project head before I do Paul.

Wait, where was the polygamous society? I totally missed that. Guess I don’t take issue with anyone viewing them as suboptimal since we have socially enforced monogamy in the west.

I actually appreciated that Zendaya looked appropriately rough and un-made-up in the film since she lives in a bloody desert and only owns one outfit. Don’t know what else you’d complain about looks wise. Stilgar was grubby AF and it makes perfect sense.
Did I also miss round faces becoming a racial issue? It’s hard to keep up these days.

Where was it stated that they only just secured the likeness?

It was from a recent stream on the WillFoxification YouTube Channel end of January with John, the INART rep (time stamp: 5:30). John had mentioned that there were delays with the Dune Paul figure due to actor strike and “that it goes to the guy, Timothée Chalamet to check it and he didn’t check it so that’s why it was delayed there.” KēCo from KēCo Collects was surprised that they had to get the actor’s personal approval on the likeness rather than solely the studio. John explained that the studio signs off on everything but the actual likeness itself.

I may have misspoke a little as far as how recent it was, but I think it’s safe to say that it was clearly delayed. They’ve been talking about how they were still in the process of securing the global licensing and rights this whole time. Hence, why it couldn’t have been announced back in 2022, which I think would’ve been the window to do it to AVOID this predicament we’re in now.

Just got paid so I’m on the verge of ordering and figured I’d weigh up the possibility of paying in full with KG for that 3% discount- but they still end up losing against Kit’s price of $530 for the rooted set.

KG can match OSK’s price but you’d have to opt for the 80 day slow boat shipping. Weak.
Their shipping rates are simply obscene now.
I will no doubt regret all the deposits I’ve placed there once the balance invoice arrives.
We know Kit will use airmail so he’s bicthslapping KG and especially GunDamit on price. Somehow they’ve ended up with the highest price of all for once.

Here’s KG in USD

Also, paying in my native currency adds £22/$2 to the total. Go, team GB…

OSK it is, now and forever more.

I dont remember the Fremen being polygamous in the books, but people are saying they were and that since Chani comes from a polygamous society, the proper response to Irulan showing up is for her to keep her head down, her mouth shut and not dare to show any anger.

However the context here is different. In the books Paul quickly and brutally put Irulan in her place; in the movie he seemed to be actually considering her as a true wife and yeah, Chani is going to be pissed: the man she loves seems to be spurning her for somebody "better" AND he is about to lead her people into war, which he said he would not do. This anger seems logical to me, but many men are bleating NOT SUBMISSIVE ENOUGH.

I think these types know few women irl.

As for her round face, its not that this is a racial issue its that the costuming in this movie really highlights that. Usually Zendaya has a cloud of hair which takes the focus off.

Thanks for the clarification.

I have to admit that it has been 40 years since I read Dune (I was about 14yo) so I also don’t remember if the Fremen were polygamous or not. However it doesn’t seem to be an element of their society that is made prominent in the new films (to this point at least) so Chani’s reaction to Irulan is perfectly understandable.

As far as her appearance is concerned, as @Chopper Face mentioned I think she looks as good as you would expect a person to look under those conditions. She is a more than competent fighter who is helping Paul learn how to survive in a very hostile environment. And beyond that if you look beyond her skills and the sand etc, it is pretty easy to see that she is also very pretty.

Of course things like beauty are subjective, but I highly doubt that most of the people who are arguing that she doesn’t look right or is not attractive enough could not come close to withstanding similar types of critiques of their own appearance. Zendaya will continue to be admired by millions while they will continue to see this in the mirror …

Lots of great discussion in here and in the movie thread that’s a little over my head to really contribute so I won’t try. But…

Figure looks amazing as pretty much all InArt protos do. No interest in this as I'm not immersed into this series nor am I a fan of Timothy Chalamet. Happy for those who are excited for it though.
….quoting myself here from earlier in the thread b/c I may eat crow now that I’ve seen Part 2. Enjoyed it much more than Part 1. Not sure if that’s enough to get me to buy one, but now I’m on the fence

Get it. Don't know anything about the books, liked part 1. Never had a firm decision to get anything Dune related but I really enjoyed part 2 so here I am with a preorder.

Spoilery response:

I never even considered that Chani should be more submissive to Paul at any point in the film- especially after she explained how men and women are equal in Fremen culture- but I do think her reaction at the end was overly emotionally driven and lacking in forethought, as she seems to be foregoing a potential position for strategic influence over the Lisan al-Gaib and likely emperor of the universe, opting instead to throw a tantrum and publicly express her disapproval of Paul’s proposition.

Paul could easily marry Irulan and stand by her for public appearances but keep Chani as his lover. Put that supposed polygamy to good use.
Maybe that’s not her ideal scenario but, since she’s a sceptic in the movies and cares as deeply for her people as she does for Paul- if not more so- she should stick as close to Paul as possible to maintain a degree of influence over him in the interest of best serving the Fremen.

Then again, Paul seems to essentially be omniscient now so I doubt there’s anything anyone can say to sway him from the path he already knows he’s going to take.

Good point about the strategic element of Chani’s connection to Paul, I wasn’t thinking about that and whether she would risk that by showing her anger.

I was on the fence also about getting this figure for a number of reasons. But after seeing Part 2 and feeling confident that this figure is going to come out great I decided that it would be a great addition to my collection. Now I’m hoping for more in this line 😁

I was iffy till I saw part 2.

Then in my minds eye I saw this figure paired with his opponent on a shelf and it was go-time.

Chani is a young woman and still filled with fury over this insult. Give her time she will come around. Any Emperor is going to have a wife and many other consorts. She should be angling for Consort #1.

Yay 94 kt emeralds, thats what you get when youre the Emperor's Consort.

If you are at all inclined to read, at least read book 1. Its a great read and will give you some insight into the franchise.
