But its infected the comics long before Nolan got to it.

There's a very real, gritty, grisly, sick world that is playing out more and more. The image of "The Bat" as a scare tactic seems almost childish in a world of Texas Chain Saw maniacs and people wearing cut-off faces. The insane asylum itself has replaced Gotham as a world all its own.
Funny thing is that "scare tactic" still works in the comics. Lol don't matter if it's a psychotic killer or petty thug the minute they see The Bat jumping on them from the shadow they definitely have an "OH ****" moment. 😆

We're talking about live action movies though. A good batman movie that explores the mythical aspects hasn't been done. It still can be gritty. The animated series is a good template. The Batman wasn't even a good "detective" movie. If they want a Mr. Freeze, then do it as is. I don't really want to see a grounded, reality "take" on what a Mr. Freeze, clayface, Manbat, etc. would be in a real world.

In the real world, Manbat and Clayface would be impossible and unbelievable.

Freeze is possible, but does he become another "serial killer" who leaves his victims in icy cold situations? Does he have a "freeze ray"? Must he be kept at a below-freezing temperature to survive? (that alone is impossible)

I don't think The Batman's tone is that much more 'fantasy-oriented' than Nolan's. The overall look is better stylized and less CSI Chicago. But it has a long way to go to making Man-Bat a believable character.

I see what you're saying. I was just basing it off how disfigured Joker looked in that movie, which, while isnt out of the realm of realism, is still a bit over the top

As “grounded” as The Batman was, I hope they continue with somewhat “fun” villains.

The Riddler was scary and sick, but eccentric; He went totally hammy fun in Arkham.

Penguin was a blast whenever he was on screen - I hope they don’t make him “cool” in his solo series, and keep him funny. I love that extended shot where he introduces himself to Batman at the Iceberg Lounge - so many different expressions on display. He’s such a weirdo - my mom loves his portrayal. :lol

I’m really not excited for Barry Keoghan’s Joker if he’s going to be grossly sick/twisted/not fun. I wish they’d just throw Bill Skarsgård into a Caesar Romero Joker suit and make him funny. Matt Reeves casting him as the Joker based on his edgy Riddler student film audition tape doesn’t give me much hope. I was hoping that Riddler thug Batman beat the **** out of would end up being The Joker, going down the “The Joker is Batman’s fault” path.

In a perfect world we’d have Ben’s Batman on HBO Max taking on different fantastical villains (Clayface, Ras Al Ghul + his Lazarus Pit, Manbat, etc) every episode for multiple seasons, and Pattinson’s Batman doing more grounded detective work. I want that so badly.

Mr Freeze is fantastic and fantastical but they’d have to invent some real convoluted BS to explain all his gimmicks away.

He obviously needs to specialise in cryogenic stasis and rare disease treatment and his primary motivation is to either cure his wife’s illness or take revenge on the company who pulled his funding and caused his accident and maybe her death as well.

Or maybe some big pharma execs want him gone after a certain medical breakthrough so they can profit off his findings so they stage an accident in his lab where Freeze is exposed to a multitude of his experimental treatments and cures all at once which infect and ‘transform’ him, disrupting his nervous system, resulting in a need for a cryo-suit to regulate his external temperature- perhaps without the suit, his blood would crystallise/freeze…

Yeah, it’s gonna be tough to actually address why Freeze is what he is in a grounded reality without it coming across as hokey.

Yeah, there's just nothing like it in nature that could be used as an excuse. In a reality-based world, the moniker "Mr Freeze" would have to be more about what he does rather than the literal "he's a frozen man" with a freeze gun and a frozen wife character.

But look, they managed to reinvent the Joker and hung his character on "Anarchy". Clearly, Mr Freeze needs to be 'cold' but maybe its just in his methods rather than all the nonsense about being a scientist, falling in a vat that made him cold, having to wear a special suit, keeping his wife frozen, liking diamonds because crooks call it 'ice', etc. Let all that stuff be the comic book stuff. Reinvent Freeze from the ground up. His gimmick can still be 'cold', like Ledger's gimmick was still a 'clown', but given Freeze something deeper to hang his character on (like Anarchy).

I suggest "Revenge", because it challenges Batman's vigilante aspects... and because, it's a dish best served... cold.

Indeed brother 👌🏼❤️ it's good to have a different take on these characters sometimes, but there is literally no need to make every single thing so fricking grounded. Batman is a comic based character overall. We need to see him, those awesome story arcs and villains as-is.

I'm fine with all that as long as he's still a somewhat sympathetic villain. Someone who does the wrong thing for the right reasons.

Freeze shouldn't be just another psychopath.

Unfortunately, Battinson already arrived at the realisation that being driven by ‘vengeance’ is selfish and destructive and isn’t going to best serve Gotham or himself.

So, I think that aspect of his ark has been covered and he’s learned that lesson.
I expect we’ll see a Batman focused on offering hope by embodying strength and self-determination, maybe showing people that an individual can take control of their life and impact real change…

Freeze and Bruce both know loss and both cut themselves off from society or forming new emotional attachments in response.
They merely use others as a means to an end. Jim Gordon is just a tool for The Batman to aid with investigations.

Bruce keeps the world at a distance because he’s afraid to suffer a loss like his parents death again, so maybe the next lesson he needs to learn is that both Bruce Wayne and The Batman could be stronger with a family.

That could also play with Scarecrow as the main antagonist as it’s focused on what Bruce fears most, which I think is loss and powerlessness/not being in control.

Then what Freeze do you want, a shallow petty criminal? Not much depth with that...
I don’t think that’s what’s being advocated. Freeze just works best with a motivation that the audience can sympathise with, even if his methods are extreme and he l himself comes across as completely devoid of any humanity.

I think you could get clever with man-bat or clay face but it’s like some of you have said, you have to torture reality to backfill the origin story of the villain to take it out of the comics reality.

I’d make man bat some dude bit by a rabid bat and then … i dunno. Make him drink blood, do Batty things, and eat faces like folks on PCP.

For clay face, how about a plastic surgeon mega rich guy who keeps changing his appearance to avoid detection? And who likes juicing and cold sculpting to the point of Michael Jackson facial mechanical failure? Like Bane x Kardashian?

On some level, you always have to concede to reality, even with Nolan’s take and Battinson’s version

It seems like Topo is gonna release a Drifter set:

How does Topo work? Do you have to order from them directly via Instagram or other social media or do websites like OSK carry their stuff?

I’d like to get the Drifter set if it’s not too expensive. Would be a good use of the Bruce sculpt rather than keeping it in the box.

OSK carries TOPO.

I'm almost sure @Kit Chen will carry Topo sets. It's probably the best option to make your PO.
