I have both figures and I agree that there will undoubtedly be better updated versions coming down the road. This version of Batman I think will be revisited in figure form quite a bit, just look at how many times Hot Toys alone has done the Bale and Affleck Batman figures. I’m actually kinda shocked that Hot Toys haven’t announced an updated Artisan version already at this point.
For me, they both have their strengths and weaknesses. The capes (obviously) and I would even say the unmasked sculpts are not great on either for various reasons. Hot Toys just doesn’t look much like Pattinson to me whereas InArt is under-scaled, has an oddly yellowish skin tone, and the rooted hair just has way too much volume on mine and most I’ve seen outside of Justin’s review copy. I have regretted not going for the sculpted on this and may actually sell off my rooted sculpt because it’s never getting displayed.
I think InArt got the color and fine detailing of the suit down better than Hot Toys, but it also has the over exaggerated wide shoulder pads (that fall off at the slightest touch on my figure), overly long arms (with overly long gauntlets as well), and some other little things like the angles of the armored torso pieces are less accurate on the InArt overall it seems. The Hot Toys torso sections are way too rounded off, the yellow on the boots is too bright, the belt pieces are too big. Neither got the pants correct, which should be a different, nylon-esque track suit material. The InArt cowl looks more life-like compared to the overly bulbous Hot Toys cowl, but the Hot Toys actually incorporates more of the cowl’s defining characteristics, like the shorter ears that protrude out of the cowl at a very particular angle. InArt’s cowl completely misses on that, especially when looking at them both head-on.
I give JND a lot of hell but they still have done the most accurate looking Pattinson Batman to my eyes—not taking into account their unmasked sculpt, woof!
