If you aren't dead set on a Note as an iPhone alternative look at the Galaxy S3. I have the Galaxy S3 for personal use and love it. It would be a nice middle ground in size and performance between the Note and iPhone. Note seems like it is a little too big and awkward to be using as a phone but great for other stuff.

I have an iPhone 4 for work and can't stand it. I'm not a big iPhone fan due to the size and being so restricted.

Samsung's offering might seem large but when it's time to type the Apple screens are too small and they don't have swipe typing.

The Apples are better if your phone is doubling as your portable game system. Most of the bigger games on Android are from Gameloft which means they're mostly meh. I have 44GB of storage so I have MAME and a zillion arcade roms, that does it for my gaming.

If you do a lot of texting or surfing on your phone I'd suggest the Samsung stuff. The Note's bigger screen and stylus are really nice for that. I don't dress like a dancer so I've never had a problem with the phone fitting in my pocket.

I also like to root my phones and install custom Android ROMs. My current Android OS looks nothing like the boring crap you see in a Sprint store. With Apple you can root but you're still stuck with vanilla iOS.

I've had both Apple and Samsung, and my current is a Samsung.
