Ironman holds the american flag because...
Tony Stark's real-life model Howard Hughes was an archetype of American individualism as well as a significant defense contractor who helped develop new weapons technologies.
Tony Stark/Iron Man's reliance on technology and intelligence, rather than the chance transformations of many other superheroes, reinforced the American faith in technological solutions to the military, political and ideological problems of the Cold War. Stark is an idealized portrait of the American inventor. By the 1960s, military weapons development was firmly in the realm of Big Science, with little role for the lone inventor. Issues of autonomy and government intervention in research and questions of loyalty — which real-life American physicists and engineers were also facing, if less dramatically — are prominent themes in early Iron Man storylines.

Thank you! That says it all!

Not my cup o' tea either. Guess I'm not much of a fan of the classic IM look, and the flag looks tacky IMO.

Amazing sculpt which should have had a switch out hand. Not every collector is American

The American flag part doesn't bother me even if I had lived in another country.

Lets say Iron Man was created in another country, I would accept him holding the flag from his country of origin.

Now, do I believe that SS should've added additional flags, maybe part of the Ex and you get to pick your flag during your order, sure I do but It would obviously have to make business sense for them to do so.

It could've been individual flags for nations where they sell their products or maybe a multinational flag, UN flag or maybe even an Avengers made up flag.

Heck, invent something called a World Flag....Iron Man and the Avengers protect all citizens of the world, no?

I respect your point of view.

I see no reason that someone cant make an Avengers flag! In fact I think it would easy to change out!

Someone can make some money here! Hint, hint! :naughty

Wifey is making one for him next weekend......first have to get the original in my hands then we proceed forward....

I kindly asked her to make an Avengers flag..well...at least that capital A within a circle is what i'm referring to and I also asked that she make me the Union Jack because that flag is bad ass and also the Brazilian flag because that's where I was born.

Hmmm...world flag.....hmmm....

Peace!

This is not for anyone specific but kinda just imo

but

I dont see any reason at all why an American character should have the option of carrying a foreign flag.

Ironman is from America, he represents the iconic Howard Hughs and Industry in America, end of story. I wouldnt expect another countries heros to carrry an American flag.

Also I wouldnt doubt that some people who dislike America are letting that fact lead them to not like the statue.

That's the (chauvinistic) problem right there. Super heros are about virtues, character, strength, personality, humanity. Not about nationality. Well, that's the way it should be. That is why they are appealing to so many peoples, no matter where they are from. Humans share similar dreams, whishes, hopes, fears, no matter where they are from. That flag is just redundant. In fact, it really constraints the image of Iron Man. You just can't pool everything under one flag!
I know some think it's a great idea, and good for them, but the flag ruins it for me. It compromises the essence of it.

By your argument, Captain America's whole costume is redundant. He already has "America" in his name, why on earth would he need his costume to be modeled after the American Flag..:google:rolleyes:

You international people need to give your little nationalistic egos a rest and take this piece for what it is.

well said bro!

Well, I hate to say it but IM is as american as can be! And in fact Capt. America too!

In fact you dont think Captain Britain would like to hold the American Flag would you?

One of the things that Sideshow didnt think about is that the Flag doesnt really go well with the rest of the world. I mean majority of us are Chinese anyways right? he he
:)

Every country has its in house heros with the same ideals......there are no constraints just the point of view from the nation from where the icon has originated.

By your point of view no country should have a hero that carries a representation of its homeland either by flag or costume.

Captain Britain
Sunfire
Captain America
Alpha flight

And Im sure many others....

should they all change their costumes or stop representing the country they are from?

Or is it just America but all the others are ok?

They probably doubled the lead content of the paint on these. Heck, they probably lined the foam with asbestos while they were at it.
