Also I have read alot in the HD vs. Blu-ray thread but is it true that more movie studios are going with Blu-ray now?

The majority (Fox, Warner Bros, Disney, Lions Gate, Sony and MGM) are going with Blu-Ray.

Only Paramount/Dreamworks and Universal are HD-DVD Exclusive.

I have to say it VERY MUCH worth it. I have about 50 BD discs now and I hate when I have to go back to watching standard def DVDs. The more BD you watch the harder it is to go back to regular DVDs. The quality is overwhelming IMO.

The good thing is you'll never notice the difference unless you comparing the two side by side. The bad news is when you do you'll drain half your bank account on getting equipment and movies.:D

Seriously though if you've seen it you know what it looks like. However if you are happy with standard def, like I said, unless you're playing both movies side by side you'll be happy. I still watch some standard def movies on my ps3 because they aren't out on blu. It doesn't make the movie any less enjoyable.

It's great

Unless you want to watch Tranformers, Beowulf, Sweeney Todd, Cloverfield, Iron Man, and Hellboy II in HD, which then Blu-Ray would be useless. ;)

Anyway, it's great, 6x the resolution of regular DVD's. On my parents TV I noticed how on some things you'll see pixelation but with HD you've got clear and crisp images, and you can actually read the end credits.

Blu-Ray is the way to go, with the picture quality, it's going to be a new standard for movies to come.

I'm a big Blu-ray guy myself. I love Hi-Def.

That said, I don't really see DVD going away anytime soon. I am starting to agree more and more that digital downloads (for movies) are going to be next big thing to take off (just like music).

I'm gonna venture to say that by the time those movies are set for home release, Paramount/Dreamworks & Universal will have all gone Blu-Ray.

Beowulf and Sweeney Todd are already set for HD-DVD exclusive releases. Beowulf is set for this month, Sweeney Todd is set for April. As far as the later ones, right now they're HD-DVD exclusive unless something changes drastically, you would think something like the Warner deal would push them all to go Blu-Ray but since they aren't you've gotta wonder what's keeping them.

EDIT: Also American Gangster.

I have them both and I just wish they would pick a side. Since Bluray has more support I say just go with them. That way I waste no more money on something that won't work in the future.

You can also think of it this way--by staying HD-DVD exclusive now, if they ever do go Blu-Ray then they can rerelease all of their HD-DVD movies and make twice the profit.

I don't think we have enough inside information to assume that there is any kind of loyalty to HD DVD that is holding either of the remaining studios back. In Universal's case, what we do know is that they were under contract until the end of last month, and of course there is some bitterness between them and Sony, which might also be a factor. But in Paramount's case, they may just be contractually obligated to wait until certain market conditions are met before they are allowed to announce any switch back to Blu-ray.

One thing that I think is safe to say is that neither is going to want to be the "last studio standing" on HD DVD's team when the Christmas buying season approaches, so it is likely that they will have made some move, at least to "format neutrality", before then.

The idea that Iron Man and HBII will be HD DVD exclusives by the time they are released seems like a bit of a stretch to me, but then, anything is possible I guess.
