More like **** you European Union for tax gouging on imports. What local industries do they possibly think they're protecting by imposing a tax on this stuff? There's been a big push by local bricks n' mortar stores here in Oz to lower the $1000 tax-free threshold on imports to something closer to $50. They argue that the tax-free status of imported goods harms sales. Thankfully the public have made that political poison by making it very clear the reason local stores are suffering is because they have huge mark-ups and crap service. But it might just be a matter of time before the government determines that the cost of administering the tax will make the return on tax receipts worthwhile.
Regardless, any future tax would be in line with the local goods-and-services tax rate of 10%, which is still a lot lower than the 15-20% the Europeans pay.
Hope I won't need an exclusive in the future, but the question of this thread is somehow irrelevant: of course it worths it, as I love some statues. I only buy what I can afford. Painful to see some of these beauties and manage not to dig in but I have to control myself. It's inevitable.
