With the whole "Plastic Fett" debacle, it got me to wondering why Star Wars fanboys are such an evil lot.

You visit the any thread on this board, from Horror to LOtR, and you see little to no flame wars. But travel into the SW forum and you better take cover.

From Bubo, to Endor troppers, to plastic Fetts, it seems there is a never ending war of words in SW threads.

I wasn't a member of the easy board, but I have heard many of the old timers speak of the peaceful days of the SS Freaks board, that is until SS picked up the SW license.

Why is it that SW fans are so damn hostel to one another and to the companies that handle all forms of the SW license??

Just wondering.

edit: In the title of the thread I put SS fans, changed it to SW fans.

I'm a SW fan, but somehow dodged that bullet.... :lol

I saw this very condition unfold before my very eyes at Midnight Madness in Toys R Us around the time Ep III came out... My fellow fans were full of malice and anger as they scrambled and shoved... all for freakin toys.

Nearly drove me away from it forever.... that is until I discovered how easy it is to get this stuff done online.... :D

I'm sure a large part is, and I'm mainly an SW collector so I could be wrong, but it seems like no other license has the quantity of product produced that SW has, or the same ammount of licensees producing items, so I think a large part is that other collectors are itching for ANYTHING to be made of their favorite films and what not, where SW fans get EVERYTHING so it becomes about getting EVERYTHING just right and for whatever reason, with some people, it becomes GRAB YOUR TORCH AND PITCH FORKS time when a product or manufacturer falls below a standard the collectors have set in their mind. I'm as blown away as many about how off the handle some people get, but that's what I think is part of the cause.

I am one of the fans but I would also like the answer.

But its been 100 times worse lately it was pretty calm when I started around last years SDCC.

That's too bad DA, I was psyched about ROTS Mindnight Madness cuz I never had my own car for the others, and my experience was great, another gentlemen I was in line with was actually helping me and I him to build up our carts as crowds got in between us, and it went by smoothly, the checkout girls were very polite and it was a great time, I'm sorry your experience went south.

Yeah, it was horrible.... I mean... afterwards I just wanted to get out, go home and burn my toys. :monkey4

Thankfully CIII came along and lit the fire again... :D

Ya know this is a good question. Some of the SW fans we have here are just nasty. I don't know what it is with SW fans in general that they feel they are insulted everytime a SW product doesn't meet THEIR need. It really is like small children fighting on the playground. They call members names, call companies names, etc all because they're SW fans and they have a right to say this. Well, none of us own SW Lucas does and honestly he's the only one that should ***** about what folks are doing to it. We either buy it or we don't.

I remember the days on EZ Board when things where much calmer and nicer. We where "all" SS Cheerleaders then honestly. We just enjoyed what we got and could talk about what we didn't like without much in the way of ***** slapping each other. Now, since SW has come around the board has changed and honestly it's caused me to change how I post on this board. I've always been pro SS but it's different now to a degree.

It was nice. I could be me a pro SS guy and everyone liked that. Outside of a couple of Trolls nobody cared because they where like me because we got to be more 1 on 1 with SS. I think part of the reason SS doesn't do as much as they used to around here partly is because they've grown a lot, but also because the types of reactions they get here. I can't say I blame them for being more low key anymore. Now, because things have change so much I'm just some pro SS I'm an ass kissing, SS Lap Dog, no good so & so. Man, do I miss the old days.

In the end I'm pro SS and a SW fan that just end just wants to enjoy my collecting. I know fans like us in the SW Collecting Community are rare but I hope we can someday get back to the old days.
SW fans or at least the kind we are getting make collecting kind of suck. They just wanna rip on what's coming out and tell everyone what's wrong with it, why it's not worth the money, or whatev else they have to say. It's not said in a constructive way either.

I didn't know giving an opinion was evil. There are people that are more vocal about their feelings than others on both sides of an issue when it comes to the things they are passionate about. Some people can't be reasoned with or have a civil discussion without calling names, which is sad actually. So is blind faith...

Hey!! No ass kissing in this thread:rolleyes:

But what if I just kiss everyone's ass to be cool with every person here? :lol :lol

After the whole debacle with DekDave... I tend to try and stay out of heated debate... messes up my neutrality.

P.S... I LIKE being Switzerland :chew

I don't think king was directing this thread to you... I'm sure he means how ALL SW fans get roudy and nasty..

Many of us got into Sideshow as a result of their Lord of the Rings stuff. The films were new, and the idea of LOTR collectibles was fairly new as well. There was a positive spirit of discovery as new items appeared along with each new release of the trilogy. There was a constant sense of something new around the corner. There was no long established merchandising history or die hard LOTR collectors--it was all relatively new to most of us.

When Sideshow got the license to do Star Wars PFs, I think they knew that they were heading in a new direction and taking things to a new level. The first release shipped around the time when they announced the acquisition of the 12" license. Many of us knew that things were changing. It was exciting, and we knew that Sideshow was going to a whole new level of exposure and popularity. The Star Wars license and its multiple lines have brought tons of new people into the family and have cemented Sideshow's position at the top of the collectible company food chain. Along with that, we have many new faces on the board. Many are lifetime Star Wars collectors for whom Sideshow is the next step in a long line of companies. Star Wars collectors are a whole new breed at times, and opinions seem to be much more varied--and defended and attacked with much more passion.

Unlike the unique nature of the Sideshow/Weta collaboration, Sideshow is now a part of the much larger world of Star Wars merchandising which is 30 years in the making. This has all of the positive and sometimes negative implications for long time Sideshow collectors that we should expect. It is fitting that just as Sideshow has grown from a smaller business to a major name in the industry, the Freaks board has grown from a few hundred people on EZBoard to the thriving hub of activity that it is today. As always, there are certain sacrifices and changes that accompany growth and expansion. Some EZ folks are now gone, but many new names have taken their place. I enjoyed lurking in the old days, I had a lot of fun when I finally joined up, and I have really enjoyed myself as I have interacted with so many people here over the last few years. I hope we can continue to attract new members and grow in new directions without losing sight of our humble beginnings.

There wasn't hardly any complaining until the SDCC exclusives were announced. :monkey3

I think I was lucky enough to dodge that bullet too.

I've been collecting SW stuff since 1977. Not once have I ever felt the need to get into a pissing match with someone over anything related to it. I know what I like and what I don't like. I either take it or leave it. I really don't need to prove my point about what I know is important to me. And I don't feel the need to put down someone if they feel differently than I do.

But I'm just laid back like that!
