Too cool!!! What specific updates are you doing to the tongue and teeth? Other than making them more accurate lol. I?d love to see before and after pics! Fantastic work!

It?s mostly that the sculpt is too soft in the small details. And the teeth were too small and inaccurate. The tongue was made to fit the bone and also too soft in the sculpt. So small changes like that to make it more realistic? looking.
It?s especially the head that lacks from a soft sculpt. The body seems pretty great, so there?s only minor tweaks to that.
Here?s a before and after shot:

Wow, approx how much will this thing cost all-up? 3-D printing always seems so expensive, even on pretty small stuff, so I guess it makes sense to buy your own printer!

I imagine for the cost of printing this Rancor by a third party you could have bought a 3-D printer anyway?

I guess it will cost about $250 to print this all included. One kilo of filament cost $23 in Denmark. Much cheaper in the US. I estimate I?ll use 9 kilos for this project. And the printer is supposed to use as much power as a laptop.
The printer cost around $800-$900 and probably less in the US. But I didn?t buy it for this project.

I decided to make my own rancor after seeing the price and size of the SSC rancor. If it was perfect, 1/6 and I didn?t care about the money I would have bought that one. But it?s 1/7 scale (I could live with that though) and I can?t help feeling that it doesn?t really look like THE rancor. It reminds me of a LOTR troll and it?s too clean. And the mouth is too narrow and throws it off imo. So I?m not going to pay $2000 for that (Europe price).

A bit of progress.

The SSC rancor looks really good in the new video. But it?s a bit less than 1/7 and that?s pretty clear. And I find the mouth too narrow and the the statue itself kind of idealized. Nothing wrong with that, I would love to own it, but for that price I would need to be in love with it.

Looks awesome so far.

Cannot imagine how impressive this will look in person once it is completed.

Have you decided how it will be displayed yet?
On a pedestal as the focal point of the collection?
As part of a larger cave diorama?

Well, if it turns out great I hoping to place it on top of one of my display cabinets. It will almost reach the ceiling, but there?s room. ...maybe it will be too disturbing, but we?ll see [emoji3526]

The paint apps on the Sideshow version do look good though......but not $1330 + SS shipping good :lol

At minimum you've got some good reference material there Slik

Yes, the paint job is good, but too clean and idealized. But that?s very good as a reference:) If it was cheaper I would probably have gone for it even if it?s like 20% too small. But...
$1330+shipping is US price. The ones I?ve seen in European sites are like $2000 [emoji28][emoji33]

Fascinating indeed, TFH. Also seeing your sig^ makes me want a Kuiil & Blurrg. Already want a Kuiil but he needs his steed!

That is unbelievable slik! It looks to have turned out incredibly well. I wish I had the know-how to do what you have done there. I don't have a 3D printer but my nephew does. Anyway can't wait to see this thing to the end, great work!
