Is SS official policy now to start reissue limited ES statues at will?

It's a simple question. You have cheated the buyers & hit baroness pf with another edition size after the original ES was clearly defined and stated, just because this is one of the few statues that managed to sellout within a few months.

Same goes for angel comiquette, just because he was a little more popular than the other comiquette.

So again, is this the policy going forward for sideshow? Any time a statue that becomes slightly popular, you will ignore the ES that has already been set, and start remaking them with slightly different color?

I want to know as a customer, because i still have about 20 preorders pending, this is not what ES = # means, nor is it what was stated when we placed the order.

Unbelievable...

Variants have existed for many pieces in the past (many past universal pieces have had variants, Marvel, The Dead, etc.) and in some cases they will exist for items in the future as well. :)

Does that mean every single piece will have a variant? Nope, not at all. Variants have been, and will continue to be few in number (it probably just seems like it's going to be a lot more due to the Baroness - Classic Version and Red Angel announcements today, so I can understand why some may think there will be more and more products that will have variants).

alex, the issue is not variant nor es. But why isnt it announced when baroness pf was released that basically the same statue with a slight color change will be re-issued <2 months later. Unlike some of the old variants that came years later, baroness pf was just released less than 2 months ago with defined es and also just happen to be soldout.

I know a lot of it cant be said in public, but it looks like a cash grab by ss, i hope you can pass the concern to the guys who made this decision - to continue down this road following bowen, destroying the sideshow brand integrity that took many years to build for a quick payout is not a sound plan - looking at the forest instead of the tree etc..

As I have said in another thread, this has been going on for years and will not stop any time soon. 3 Hulk Coms, 3 Elektra Coms & 2 PFs, 2 Hulk PFs, 3 Spidey PFs & 2 Coms, and 2 Iron Man Coms. There are probably a few that I missed as well. Variants have been a part of SSC's business strategy from the very beginning. All major companies take part in it. Bowen and Koto also release variants. I know it can be frustrating at times but it's a part of our hobby that we have to deal with.

Just thought I'd add my thoughts as a newbie here. I can appreciate how some more of the seasoned collectors here would feel that they've been shortchanged, but for someone entering the hobby later, a variant is another chance to own a figure they missed out on. :)

One happy outcome of reissues I enjoy is what it does to those greedy scalpers out there on eBay, who buy 10 figures of a popular character and then flip it for twice it's value or more and deny real collectors the opportunity to collect.

If this there's something I would like to see a change, it's maybe a policy that an individual can't buy more than two figures of a LE figure. And I don't mean retailers, I'm specifically talking about individuals here. That way we can all have a fair chance of owning a figure we covet without being held to ransom by scalpers. Again, just my thoughts...

yeah, i sorta agree with your point. i understand the other side as well, and definitely understand the business aspects of it from SSC aspect as well. just in my own terms, i collect just cause i want something, i don't collect cause something is rare or has low ES. honestly anything that is done to reduce scalping i'm all in for.

It's too soon for variant colours imo, these released not too long ago

I think they should have been released together. I imagine there are a few peeps that bought the blue costume that really wanted the red. I like when variants are released simultaneously with the original releases. At the very least, a heads up saying this variant was going to be released can allow SSC's customers to make informed decisions. I'm not against variants, I just wish we knew about them before we make a purchase.

IMHO, the later a variant is released, the more upset collectors get. Can you imagine if they re-released the Doom, Cap, and Hulk PFs? Newer collectors would do cartwheels. Seasoned collectors....not so much.

I edited that down to the only REAL important parts...:wink1:. I kid I kid.... Actually out of all three of those the only one I would purchase would be a Doom. Now a NEW Cap or Hulk design would get my attention as I, though they are nice sculpts, I am not a MASSIVE fan of their previous PFs to the point that if someone offered to buy them for me NO strings attached I might just try to see if I could opt for different more current pieces that IMO have more detail in them. Skaar would be an example of one of those.

Personally I am a fan of originality. Now sure there are pieces that have come and gone that I have missed that I would love to have, the Spiderman Back In Black Comiquetter comes to mind, but I still would love to see new and innovative takes on my Favorite characters. I know I for one would love to have a dynamic SSC Fully Sculpted Spiderman Swinging through the air in his classic red and blue. Now if a variant of THAT came out in the black symbiote constume I would be all over it.

However, I can't say I am completely against the idea of variants as I thought the Rulk Com was amazing. Hell I have even seen a costum Red Hulk painted all green that I would love to see an SSC version of (and please don't bring up the Tyson version as the one I am talking about made it look all the more horrible). Also, the Grey version is n the way... So that will be three versions of the same sculpt.

In the end I would love to see some new innovative versions of my favorite characters, but I see a place for some variants that allow some people to collect other versions of their favorite characters.

It's simple. It's a matter of $.

From my understanding, THE BARONESS PF apparently sold very well for Sideshow; therefore, they produced and are offering an exclusive variation through their retailers with the obvious targets being GI JOE collectors and non-GI JOE collectors who missed out on the original run.

I don't collect other licenses to comments on how often Sideshow is or may be offering variants somewhere down the line.

Again, it's simply a matter of $ regardless if some may feel Sideshow is betraying their customers, fans, whatever.

It's all about the $ . . . brand/company dedication & loyalty notwithstanding.

Personally speaking . . . I may look into in acquiring one (i.e. variant PF of THE BARONESS) because I do collect & enjoy the GI JOE brand/license . . . so far.

At least the color has changed, unlike an "International Edition". :monkey3

At least they don't do this often, the bulk of their catalog of pre-orders are characters that they've either never done before, being done in different formats, from new licenses or from different sources.

Sideshow could spend their days remaking the same popular characters over and over like HT does, but they understand the need for variety in it's products and most of the time, collectibility.

Clones anyone? And I can see how the release of a slightly different colored, but basically the same figure, can decrease the collectible value of the original..but it is still an original. I do not agree with it though..when you are charging collectible prices, the integrity to uphold its collectible value is that of the creator. Don't try to hide behind the term "variant" when we all know it is another way to just capitalize on the same statue while depreciating the value of the previous ones that people paid a premium to get. I personally dont collect something because I think it will be worth a ton...I take my figures out of the box..but some dont..they should be thought of in this decision.
