A local friend of mine who collects a little bit as he can afford it was telling me how several of his sideshow pieces he's had for a couple of years appear to be very pale, as though the paint is fading or getting ruined. I was pretty concerned so today when I was in his area of the city I went over to have a look so I could contact Sideshow about it.

I walk in (first time I see his place) and yes, he has all his statues on a shelf right next to the patio door, blinds open, sun happily warming all his statues. :sick :banghead :duh

Folks, if you don't know this already for some reason, SUN FADES PAINT.

Thank you and goodnight. :emperor

Sun fades pretty much everything. Direct sunlight is absolutely a no-no.

I am positive everyone here knows this already, but I figured just in case I would mention it lol! I should have taken a pic... and you guys don't want to know what the statues were unless you want to cry. One is a P1 pred bust. :monkey2

Eggs eat at paint too. SOME 1 FAUKEN EGGED MY CAR LAST NIGHT!

It's in my opinion that statues under ANY direct light source is something to prevent in your collection. I've also heard stories about light sources in curios causing damage.

I'm sure that indirect light, etc. has some effect, but I don't have evidence, just a hunch. Over time of course, a lot of time

Damn! I left one of my chimps out this afternoon and came home to this!!

That's my concern. THe only place I have to put my collectibles puts a few directly in front of a window. I have a dark curtain over it and blinds that are closed I'm crossing my fingers that enough protection. So far so good. Hopefully I'll have a better display area.

I was thinking of setting up a display under a window. The shades are ALWAYS down but Im sure some light can get through. Not a whole lot though... is this still bad news?
Maybe I should put an extra shade just incase

As long as it is out of direct sunlight (UV rays) it's fine... some natural daylight is fine, direct sun is not.

For the lights sources, it's usually not the light itself unless it gives off UV light.. typically it's the HEAT from the lights that are an issue. My lights are never on unless I am showing someone my collection, which is 10-20 minutes tops every 6 months or so lol!

what about mineral water ? say with a temp of 50 degrees celcius?
