Rory! Its time, its time you face your fears ................... get it set back to 120hz you wuss :lol

:lol:lol:rotfl

It is but on low this time. It's a bit better on low. Do you have yours set up the same way?

The beginning of Casino Royale was intense last night. The killing seemed so real and brutal. :lol I instantly thought of Faces of Death. If you don't know what that is please take my advice and don't look for it. You will be better off for it. :lol

I'm not a fan of 120hz. Any movie that has heavy CGI like Pirates OTC, end up looking like video games.

Mine is set at 60hz all the time so i've never experienced your "fears" :lol

The first time I saw 120hz was in the store and it was showing Batman Begins, where young Bruce fell into the well and the bats all came flying out. As you can imagine, it looked freaking amazing. I think 120hz is a double edged sword. For me it's a way to watch movies I've seen before b/c it slows things down so my eyes can process everything on screen better. It's almost like the letterbox vs full frame version of a movie back in the day in the sense that you notice things you many not have seen before. Congrats on the TV BTW, Samsung is a great brand. Did you buy it locally?

To me 120hz is equivalent to the full frame, since it is an alteration and not what was intended. I don't see how anyone could like that live TV video camera look.

Thanks, Rory, for this thread.

I'm about to buy my first LCD and I *never* would've known about something like this!
I don't have anyone to help me but I am gonna start educating myself.

Is it possible that, while in a store comparing TVs that some of them are in this mode and others not?
Some TVs just seem so far superior to others... and yes I made sure to compare the same dpi's.

But after staring at them all for a while, my eyes go a bit crazy!

I will make it easy for you, just get the one that says both "1080p" and "Samsung" :D

Trust me ;)

Thanks so much, John- so helpful!
(It looks like I won't have time for Freaks for a while, though! :lol)

Terminator? Is the Samsung really better than the Sony Bravia that everyone is raving about?
I have to admit that the Sony's pic looked awfully sweet yesterday...

(I'm looking at around a 40" screen...)

Sam, I have the Sony 46" Bravia and it is a wonderful TV - not only for the picture; but the features (3 HDMI, etc) are well worth it.

I personally don't care for the 120 hz either, not even when watching normal television programs.

This is based on personal preference and actual experience. My father in law has a Sony Bravia and I the Samsung, there is NO comparison. I just don't have the heart to tell him that of course. :lol

Both of our T.V.s were hooked up the same and his just comes off more blotchy especially when it comes to dark scenes (Watching Batman Begins for example)

This is just a personal opinion though, I don't read much in terms of reviews and admit I just kinda fell ass backwards into the Samsung. :D But i've seen many in person and the Samsung still looks the best to me.

I agree the Samsung LCDs are the best buy for your money. Samsung pioneers a lot of the technology (it took Sony a while to get 120hz on a set, for example) and in terms of quality for your dollar, you get the best value b/c you're not paying a premium for the name. If you're not concerned about 120hz, check out the Panasonic plasmas - they're pretty amazing too. Just make sure your set has a few HDMI ports and is 1080p, at the very least, as the rest are just extra features. Either way you'll be amazed by the picture :banana

I'm thinking of buying a 65" Mitsubishi DLP and they have 2 options. 1 is without 120hz for about $1200 and the other is 120hz for $2000+.

Are you guys saying that I shouldn't worry about the 120hz and just get the regular one?

yes. It sure as hell is not worth $800.00.

Its all about response time and contrast ratio. Usually 120hz sets have a better response time.

better response time = low number (2ms or 4ms)
better contrast ratio = high number (10,000:1 or 100,000:1)

I have a Toshiba Regza 46 inch and I love it. Has great consumer reports as well. :)

No worries. :lol I apparently was clueless as well. However in this instance the 120hz thing is not bad at all, quite the contrary, it's absolutely too good. :D

Makes everything look beyond real and I don't think our viewing eyes are use to it. I have the feature set on low now and I am enjoying it very much. So don't fear about the 120hz thing because it's actually pretty awesome especially if you like watching nature stuff. :D

My eyes are used to viewing that ^^^^. It's called watching live TV. It doesn't work for movies.
