There were rats of some kind but Luke defines their size when they're discussing the target shaft in the Death Star assault and he said he could bullseye Wamp Rats and they're not much bigger than 2 meters, 2 meters would be almost half the size of the landspeeder. The only way those small rats and this figure pack creature could be is if LFL and it's licensees broke continuity in film and collectible.
