I still think Eco was pretty cool, at least when comparred to some of the bizarre ninja force designs. Whew!
Agreed.

Both mediums featured narratives quite ridiculous in terms of how realistic they were, but at least the cartoon was smart enough to realize (and even have fun) with it. And if you take the entirety of the Sunbow cartoon series (MASS Device to the 1987 Movie) and the complete Marvel series (issues 1-155) the cartoon tells a much more entertaining and satisfying narrative.
I think it is a bit silly to defend the comics as serious work and criticize the cartoons. They are both forms of entertainment aimed at children. They both work on some levels and fail to work on others. Enjoy both for what they are. Though the comic is slightly more "sophisticated," nothing touches my nostalgia for the cartoon, so it always wins out in my mind.

I never said that one group of characters (cartoon vs. comic) was universally better than the other. Quite a number of characters in the cartoon (Destro, Duke, Flint, Torpedo, Gung Ho, Baroness, Zartan, etc.) were quite a bit cooler than their comic book counterparts. Others (Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, most famously) obviously fared better in the comics.

I agree with this.

^^ jealous of Flint's Eco Power. Great example of the military-industrial complex in action was Haliburton's chemical dispersants used by the Eco Warriors. . .USA USA USA!!

Hey, if squirting your figures with warm fluid to reveal stains floats your boat, go sailing! :monkey1

I was always annoyed that Airtight wasn't brought into Eco Force. I guess Hasbro didn't think he was big enough to carry a "team", as though they needed a bigger character to anchor a subset. I still think Eco was pretty cool, at least when comparred to some of the bizarre ninja force designs. Whew!

At least his integrity stayed intact. :lol

Swivel arm battle grip was so much better than the fixed arm.

Sucked having to rebuy everybody though. :banghead

Scrap-Iron had a pretty dramatic and brutal introducton in the comics as well. Blasting Soft Master with a rocket as he tried to save Billy, Candy, and an innocent civilian from a burning car and then nuking the car for no other reason than to negate the SM's final act of heroism.

the best part of that was firefly's thumbs down to scrap iron.

all my original straight arms are missing hands or thumbs i think.

And so, here we are. 12 hours (roughly) away from the next newsletter and completely blind and nearly without hope of seeing a new Joe. But there is one thing that I have thought about and have decided on...

and that is that I will not be satisfied with a hint of a new Joe to come that we have to "watch upcoming newsletters" for.

Preorder or fail tonight.

On the other hand...a pre-order AND a hint would rock.

OK...I'll live with a hint if I have to.

Interesting. I am completely opposite of that. I jumped into JOE in '82 and Major Bludd was my first mailaway figure (followed by Hooded Cobra Commander).

I got a couple of figures in '82 (Short Fuze and Cobra Officer), but I wasn't in full force until '83. I don't know how I acquired my CC figures at all. I never did a mail-in for Joes (did every Star Wars one though). The friend who got me into it in the first place had Bludd. I had Destro, and that's who I identified with. My brother and my friend's brother were always the Joes, and we were always Cobra.

Because of that, my favorite year was '84. Baroness, Storm Shadow, Firefly, Scrap Iron, Zartan, and Wild Weasel, all at once. '85 was a great follow up with the Crimson Guard, Tomax & Xamot, Snow Serpents, Eels, and Tele-Vipers.

I never read the comic because I had no consistent access to them. I got one in a birthday grab bag, read it, and never gave it a second thought because I knew I would never come across the rest of the story. I watched the cartoon, but of the four of us, I liked it least. Maybe because I was the oldest. I don't know. What I do know is that my love of the franchise is anchored in the figures. File cards, card art, and plastic.

I will read the comics. Atleast the first 4-5 volumes. Sounds like a great story.

Bludd was a great and instrumental RAH character. If Sideshow doesn't make him it's a clear FAIL.

It would be. And it would make sense if he was announced before Scrap Iron. I still want the missle launcher first.

all winners. storm shadow and firefly are still my all time favorite figures i think (along with vintage fett).

as far as the comics....you won't be disappointed. soooo many good issues.

We've been through Tomax and Xamot discussion, is there a set of 2 or more Joes that you guys would be "satisfied" with if they came with essentially the same outfit, just in different colors? Basically, I mean is there a Joe equivalent of the Cobra Trooper/Officer/Sniper?

Example, would you guys be okay if Zap and Grunt shared the same clothing with changes to accessories and color or camo pattern?

I don't think SSC needs to be given permission to cut corners, but anyway, there's the question. Thoughts? We just need more announcements and fast!

Yes. I think that all of the green shirts could get away with that. Rock n Roll and Short Fuze are basically the same as Grunt and Zap. Breaker and Flash are only slightly more complex. Doc is in khaki and Stalker's in camo, but otherwise they're the same as the rest.

$89.99 each. Stalker first.
