If anyone jumped the shark, it was Zartan.
Zartan is no wackier than Destro, IMO. With the Joes, there are degrees of silliness--are we only going to accept good guys and bad guys that look like they would exist in the "real world"? Are we gonna accept robots and monsters? Are we gonna accept neon colors?

Personally, in the cartoon, the Cobra La nonsense crossed the line into ridiculousness that I had no interest in. In the comic, I could deal with Serpentor and the BATs, but I had no love for the 1987 and beyond era characters and stories (battle armor CC, Raptor, Battleforce 2000, etc.).

There is nothing intrinsically sillier about, say, Big Boa from Zartan, but GI Joe as a franchise started going down hill at that time, so I just don't care about the characters. Zartan was freakin' awesome in the comic and cartoon, and has a great design, mutant or no.

Serpentor, Dr. Mindbender, and Cobra-La are no more far fetched than Cobra Commander, Flash, and Snow Job's laser weapons or telepathically controlled JUMP packs. Starting in 1982 GI Joe:ARAH clearly established a world of Viet Nam vets battling terrorists with fantasy elements straight out of Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon.

Serpentor and Cobra-La just take the sci-fi elements that already existed and gave them more focus. How well those elements were executed is up for debate but precedent for them to exist was there on day one.

You are on the crack. Serpentor and especially Cobra-La have always sucked teabags. They didn't take the sci-fi elements that already existed and give them "more focus". They took them and drove them into the freaking ground as a punchline.

Serpentor was straight ruthless. "This is what I command!!!!"
Zartan and Destro needs to be next.
There is so much characters to choose from. Personally I love to have a Alpine figure. His accessories would be crazy as fonzie

Speaking of which . . . I really hope they'll produce a SCI-FI figure.

I could do those as well as Wet-Suit, General Hawk, and maybe Law and Order, but I don't think I would go for any others. I know that Shockwave looks pretty nifty, but I never had the toy or any connection with the character as a child.
