Looks a bit like Steven Tyler to me. The cheeks are a bit too sunken in. At least he looks alive. I've had too many figures with no expression!
I'm on the fence. As much as I am looking forward to this line, Aragorn doesn't quite grab me yet. More pics please!

I wonder if they were going for the "You just killed my best friend Boromir and now i'm going to cry..." scene. What do you yall think?

you're honestly saying you can't see the viggo mortensen likeness?

here it is with the paint stripped.

Looks a lot more like Errol Flynn:eek:

Dont like the preview. And I imagine if the prototype is off wait until it ships and gets painted it will be even more "off". To me, it looks like the SSW Aragorn "bust" has the best likeness. I dont have high hopes for this 12 inch line, thought it should of never been done by SS, because its not going to be done right.

I'm a big SS collector and Fan but lately it seems their going downhill, alot of bashing has been going on. Han got beatup and I feel when Leia or Obi-wan ship the bash will continue. High prices, poor quality and secondary market prices hitting rock bottom isn't a good sign. It seems their doing too much all at once. Hopefully they will bounce back.

Going down hill? Pass me what your smoking would ya. :D Han is getting a little bit of a bum rap but it's not that bad. High prices? Have you seen what CM is charging for their stuff? To me that's highway robbery but that may be just me. Poor quality? What stuff have you gotten that's been bad quality?????? As far as the secondary prices. Well, SS can't control that.

I guess we all have high expectations of sideshow and their sculptors, but they could do better than this. Viggo's face IS difficult, which means sideshow should spend the extra time to do it and not rush out with a product. So far, I think their stuff has been top notch and really pushing the bar with collectibles and their likeness. For sculpts that are not reliant on scanning, they are incredible. The secondary market has other factors aside from fans not being happy with the product itself, there's edition size, glut in collectibles, holidays, gas prices, unhappiness... Anyway, I think we all want good stuff first and foremost. If I wanted a cheap product then Hasbro would be king. It is going to be around $50 so all the complaining is coming from somewhere. This is one time Sideshow really should go back and work at it more. This is the herald figure... the first one that brings attention to the line. There is no room for "almost" got it. Like someone said, we criticize because we care.

I don't see where the Neca version is any better.

Man, the more I look at it, the more I'm LOVING IT! All the SS version needs
is the cleft chin to REALLY make it look like Viggo!!

& is it me, or is that SS EYE paint job the SHIZNIGGIDY!?!?!
(although production won't be that nice, it's still nice to know that they SEE
what a nice eye paint job should look like! Which gives me hope for the future
of eye paintjobs)

*ss*

The NECA version reminds me of Phil Hartman's "Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer" from Saturday Night Live back in the day. As for Sideshow's version... not bad, but he just makes me anxious to see the 1/4 scale Aragorn, our last chance for a perfect Viggo sculpt.

Try covering up the right half of the face, and just the left half looks quite a lot like Viggo. Something about the placement and angle of the right eye (his left) doesn't quite match the other.

The thing for me (after letting this one perculate for awhile  ) is the forehead appears to be too narrow and the eyes are a bit slanted. :peace

Besides the cleft on his chin that appears to be missing, it looks to me like his chin is a little too pointy. It should be a little wider, more "squared" off. I do keep seeing the Ed Harris/Johnny Carson thing. I'd like to see a profile shot though. I know some of us are pretty picky but, we want our Aragorn to be right man. Come on it's Aragorn! I hope that the future releases will have a better resemblance to the actors who played the characters. I'm worried for Arwen.

I agree Tom...It's that right eye man...Almost like it's upside down..

If SS really listen to is customers they should re-sculpt
this figure (unless he is already in production) and give us what we deserve and demand for the $$$ we pay: QUALITY!!!

Yeah, this paint job is truly excellent, probably better than any production paint job on any Aragorn ever. And I think that may be contributing to what people are complaining about in the sculpt. This looks so "finished" and professional that people are worried that the sculpt doesn't live up to it. But I'm becoming more and more convinced that this guy will live up to our expectations.
