I hate when Directors jump ship for a better opportunity rather than stick it out with their current duties. Trek 3 won't have Abrams now, and i bet it'll suffer, hopefully not as bad as TLS did when Singer jumped to Superman.

He wasn't even going to direct this one. He changed his mind.

Also, X-3 was the cinematic equivalent of someone taking a dump on your face.

Superman was just someone saying we're going to Universal Studios, but end up taking us to Disney World. Dull. But nothing compared to being ****ed on by Brett Ratner.

Even worse would be if they dust it off the E and take off again. "Oh, it was designed to

fall through the atmosphere in a fireball and splashdown. No big deal. Slap some paint on it."

I've been watching episodes of various Star Trek shows over the last few weeks, and the Prime Directive seems to be followed only when it is convenient as a plot device. I just saw an episode of Enterprise a couple days ago where this race that had no previous exposure to the humans came on board their ship and the engineer was explaining how the engine worked, etc. No reason it should be any different in the movies I guess.

The Enterprise looks like its going to be an insurance write off :(

Good, i hope it gets a new ship class at the end of this one because that design they went with was ok but, those naccelles look horrible and are positioned badly on the cg model.

No more stupid beer factory engineering room and exterior shots, looks really bad and dated compared to how futuristic the exterior of the ship looks.

Yep, now you're getting it - it's one of the great loopholes of Trek. They often give the Prime Directive huge lip service, then turn right around and violate it in the next episode. As Captains go, I think Kirk may have been the worst offender, worse even than Archer, who didn't even have to abide by it because it hadn't been invented yet!

I wasn't majorly fond of the new design myself. I think they could have gotten away with just using the old 'refit' movie design - much cooler looking IMO

Agreed and agreed. The nacelles sit way to far forward up near the saucer. Purely from the point of view of aesthetics, it looks off. And the "factory style" engineering section always bothered me, also. I know Abrams was going for a more gritty look, but it just doesn't fit the ship. This is one area where they need to go back and have a closer look at the engineering sections of other Trek vessels. If they want 'realism' take note of the engineering section of NX-01. It looks futuristic but also like there are some guts to it. Do a riff on that...
