It just looks like the studio threw a bunch of money at Abrahms and said "Make it relevant for that "tween" audience.

Indeed, I had the same feeling. Although I hope it's better than Lost in Space. I wouldn't wish that on Star Trek. Not one bit.

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

Nothing official online yet, but here it is on youtube. It looks great! Kirk likes his antiques. :lol

I like what I see so far. I'll be in line in May!

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

Shame they didn't do a prequel to The Wrath of Khan. Yes I know he is in one episode of the classic show but it could have been redone on a grander scale.
Wrath of Khan can be viewed as a standalone film and is still one of the greatest sci-fi pictures ever made.
New Kirk looks a bit high school the musical for me.

Khan is such a great character! You should check out the Eugenics Wars books which chronicle Khan's rise and fall on Earth, and then "To Reign In Hell" which covers the time between the episode "Space Seed" and "The Wrath of Khan."

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

The opening with the car is a bit much, but I'm liking everything else. A re-imagined origin story can work, and I'm liking the look - but it will come down to the script.

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

I believe he's purposely destroying his abusive step fathers car in that scene.

All my thoughts exactly! I have no issues with a re-boot (of sorts) but if the script is bad then it will be an epic fail.

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

Also....I thought his name was James. T Kirk...unless I heard wrong, sounds like he said "Sibirious" or something....

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

You did hear wrong. He said "James Tyberious Kirk". I loved the feel and look of the new film. I was never into Star Trek at all save a passing interest in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine but I am really looking forward to seeing this after watching the preview. It was an awesome surprise after getting stuck with the same ol' WATCHMEN trailer in QoS

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

Good then. I'm not a Trek fan at all...but if they're going to do a prequel, and they mess up his name....well...

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

I've read online that this isn't exactly a prequel or a reboot but a melding of the two. That even if the franchise continues a good distance that there were no plans to have it connect to the original series or films. Anyone else confirm or deny?

To me... It sounded like he said "James Hyberious Kirk" when I saw the trailer in the theater.
Just a bad line reading...

Maybe they will clean it up in an ADR session.

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

Me too....although when I watched the YouTube cam version I could see how it could sound like the others.

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

You are correct sir Rex! That is the proper spelling for James Kirk's middle name. It has been spelled like that since the original series in the 1960s.

I'm a HUGE life-long Star Trek fan. I've seen all of the movies, and series episodes. I'll take this new movie with a big "grain of salt", and forgive its shortcomings, and just have a good time.

I like what I see so far. I can't wait to see it. If this is a new series of movies for Star Trek that is fine. Just like what they did with "rebooting" James Bond with Daniel Craig recently. I am loving those movies. :D

Re: J.J. Abrams' Star Trek

Not a big Trek fan but this movie does look awesome. I do like JJ Abrams so perhaps Trek can finally come back properly with all of you fans that have been waiting.

From what I've heard it's an alternative universe kind of thing -with Nimoy the future alternate universe Spock.
